Yahtzee is not a reviewer

Postby James » Wed Jun 04, 08 8:32 pm

He's a critique. Some could say that's more reliable than a review, however.

I like watching some of his stuff, entertaining at least. But I wouldn't really let his comments decide a game for me.

Who is he again? The zero punctuation guy?

He said "I actually like this game but people don't like it when I say good things about a game so I'll just say bad things". So evidently he's not reliable as a reviewer, but I like his stuff still.

I wouldn't class him as a Grade A Reviewer. Because his work is meant to be cynical, it's even satire to a degree. He deliberately look for the negative things in games. And I prefer that. Most reviewers note the majority of good things unless it really is a shit game.

Hell, he even gave GTA4 a fairly "bad" review, and everyone else gave it a fucken 10/10. So obviously, not only will no game publisher advertise on The Escapist but they probably also fear him to some degree as there is a lot of people out there who trust and believe his reviews (dumbasses if you ask me, as then they'd be playing no game).

I watch them because I find them funny, not because I would base whether I buy a game off them or not. I don't trust reviews, I just like hearing/reading peoples opinions on a game.

I tend to find if you mix a review from somewhere like IGN and then you get Yahtzee's spin on it, you tend to get the big picture.

Yes but he has a sense of personality to him in a human way. Unlike Gamespot and IGN are the same faceless opinions copy'd pasted twenty times.

Yeah, that's true. I mainly watch Yahtzee because he's fucken funny. I don't take his reviews seriously but I don't think he's lying when he gives a review either. Possibly exaggerating the truth? Wouldn't know until I played the game though.

Ironically I agree with his criticisms for most games.

GTA IV was definitely not a perfect. It lacked the variety of San Andreas. However with every factor consistent to the series it improved on, it removed so much content that now it's just a re-print GTA III.

HAAAAAAAAAAA

Apart from vehicles missing, SA gimmicks were a joke. I'm sorry but I don't like having to take care of my virtual body, go to driving school/flying school and have a empty world. The only thing I miss is
property.

Basically GTA4 is just GTA3 with better graphics. You can't mod your car out, you don't have any stats like in SA, you can't use those big-ass planes or forklifts (seriously, wtf?). The best thing I've seen is the ability to die in really awesome ways. Such as spawning a Hunter and ramming it in the Empire State Building and you fly out. Or going really fast in a Hunter and then bailing to slingshot yourself fucking far.

But it does lose it's fun quickly, my mate has it and though it looks awesome it looks very limited. Seriously, why the hell is it? SA owned. No scratch that, it still owns. GTA4 doesn't have that feel that SA does tbh.

And as far as I'm concerned it's 10/10 scores (or 100/100 on Metacritic) are so overrated and BULLSHIT. NO game is perfect, which is what a 10/10 signifies - a 10/10 means the game is mathematically FLAWLESS. And we all know that's not possible in the least.

What do you mean? I don't own the game, I'm judging the game off what I've seen and I've seen a lot. One thing they added was drunk driving but honestly, it looks entirely shit to what IGN claim to be. All it does is shake the screen round, my mate can drive fucking easily, the handling isn't even changed apparently (though this could be a matter of skill too).

I was referring to Jay's post; didn't realise you sniped me.

Lack of variety in GTA IV. Deconstructive Playboy X mission: entailed Niko going into a facility, shooting the place up and then chase the last surviving guy in pursuit.

Assassination missions: Go in to a facility, shoot the place up and chase down survivors in pursuit.

Chase them down chase them down chase them down chase them down chase them down chase them down chase them down chase them down chase them down.

Yeah, my mate ALWAYS does that. He doesn't seem to mind but that could possibly be because he liked Assassin's Creed? Which was pretty much repetitiveness throughout the whole game (get told about your target, find out about your target, find your target, kill your target, get killed/run away from guards, rinse and repeat as necessary).

The SA mechanics were hardly gimmicky. Yes the gym could get repetitive but learning new moves, getting fat or stealing added to the sandbox nature of the game.

Why the hell are Assassinations PRECISELY the same as normal eliminate missions?

Why the Hell are the car thefts precisely the same as the missions where you have to get a car?

OHHHH THIS IS AN OUTRAGEEEEEEEEEE

Of course GTA4 is repetitive and that isn't a problem at all. SA shoved pointless and boring missions in your face with empty characters and a bad landscape. GTA4 felt full and was very fun even when you aware you are doing the same thing over and over but in different places but in a new experience, this was present in all other GTA games except SA. I've yet to see one person say the toy missions were fun in SA were good... I was hoping they'd be the last after VC.

Assassinations: Sniper Rifle from a distance on a single target in a specific vulnerable instant to avoid backlash.

Eliminate: Clear out an area of rival gang members.

I just read through this topic.

You can't mod your car in GTA IV? What the fuck were they thinking.

And James, you need to take care of your virtual body, otherwise you can play the game too easily ;)

They thought it was useless seeing as you'd blow it up unless you load your save.

Thing is, if you can't do it in SP, then you can't do it in MP either.

Thing about SA: MP I liked, was the car modding. Did you ever see 30 cars, all sorts, being pink? Twas fun.
