Getting the fuck out.

Postby Siva » Mon Oct 20, 08 9:40 pm

I think it's pretty evident that living in South East London is far too much of a hassle.

I want to be able to go out with friends and not have to fight 1/3 times. Living where I live has made me alot of people I didn't really want to be, and I had to see alot of things I didn't particularly want to see either.

Me and my mum both agreed that when I leave, she's leaving. I couldn't let her live here alone. Don't get me wrong, we don't live on the worlds hardest estate, it's just that life is harder than it should be.

So I ask those of you who I consider to be more knowledgeable and worldly than me. How should I go about it? Do colleges offer accommodation, or is it only Universities with halls of residence. I am definitely pursuing higher education, that's for sure.

If not, how feasible is it for one to move in with some people. I don't really give a shite about sharing a shower\kitchen etc, but sleeping in the same room is a no-no.

So, ideas?

Also, anything that you had to learn the hard way about moving into the world on your own would be good.

Serious thread gentlemen, I don't want replies like "LOL DON'T HAVE SEX WITH TRANSVESTITES"

Hey don't drag the whole of the South East down mate, most places are more than nice to live in. Just not Lewisham.

But as you say Uni's a good way to go, wouldn't bother with a London one though.

For a decent place for 2, you're looking at £500 p/m at most. Mine is £350, and I'm sharing it with one other person.

I'd suggest holding out until you get to uni though, because you'll get your loan/grant to pay for halls and other stuff, and its loads of fun.

I only chose a flat for uni because I had the money-in-pocket from keeping my head down and earning a decent income from my part time job. If money is an issue, then wait for halls, but if you want your independence, you're gonna have to work for it ;)

With Uni, the best thing to do is On-Campus halls it for one year, its cheap and an interesting experience, and then move out into a uni flat for the last 2-3 years

Uni's tend to kick out residents after 1 year anyway, due to spacing issues

Apologies, I didn't see it there.

I never knew you lived in London. And I would've said Suburbs too.

Well I don't know much about the living conditions there so I don't think I'd be able to give you any solid advice/help. :[

What's wrong with asking the age group I'll be moving into sooner or how they live and their experiences?
