I have to disable my anti-virus and therefore be vulnerable to malware so I can work in it or it will lag. I think Adobe wants to send us viruses. =D>

It runs smooth on my PC, on Vista, while using Kaspersky Internet Security, which isn't quite light either.
I guess it's just your PC.

Many people complain about CS4 and it being slow with Kaspersky. You're just lucky

By the way, mine is slow because of Spyware Doctor.

There's problem #1 - using CS4.

Just stick with CS2 or CS3.

I use CS4 perfectly fine but honestly, unless you use ALL the features then don't bother upgrading. I did but it doesn't bother me too much. I might even install CS2 again, most probably.

Adobe is leading more into the 3D design area and Photoshop adds a bit more in the ways of that, but if you're a 3D designer you're better off with specialized shit like Cinema 4D, 3DS Max, Autodesk Maya, etc.

I've never used Illustrator but I want to get it to learn how to make graphics in vectors. I'm learning it this year in my design course too.
