DXMP_Runescape_Castlewars.dx released

Postby Leenuks » Tue Apr 22, 08 6:11 am

A map based on the Runescape mini-game called Castlewars.

This is my first competed map. This map is best played on max skill settings when hosted as 4 doors and 2 law cabinets are set to 80%.

Some screenies for you.

I don't mind RuneScape as a game but making a map based off it is just plain weird, no offence. Either way, that is a damn good replica of the RS Minigame, that's for fucken sure.

Great job! Now, is there a CTF gameplay option/mod for Deus Ex? LOL.

EDIT: I assume there's no underground level? As it doesn't look like it, but I'll see anyway.

I went and had a look at some castle wars videos on youtube for comparison.

I can safely say that that is a very well done conversion.

All you need to do now is add the hopping stones, some custom weapons, a custom gametype, and we have potential hilarity

Custom swords! Yeah, lol. Custom gametype wouldn't be just Capture the Flag. As that is what Castle Wars is. And the hopping stones aren't necessary but would be a nice touch. Love the underground btw. Those annoyingly placed doors make for good obstacles like you would have in the real minigame.

Very nice indeed. :)

Are there any underground tunnels like there are in Runescape? Just a question, but again, excellent! :D

Great idea but it may not play so well. The underground levels would definitely go without a hitch but I think the "magic" of Castle Wars is the concept of limited range so battles would take place in the middle, rather than snipers in every corner.

However if you added custom swords and bows etc then it may be pulled off.

The conversion of the map is flawless. Is the mote a liquid?

You should make it so the water is 'killable' and that there are stepping stones there? Hehe, just thinking.

In retrospect that makes sense...

What's the purpose of stepping stones if the water isn't a hazard?
Could we possibly integrate the siege weapons?

Listen to me! I quit runescape a year ago and now I can't stop talking about it.

*Sweeps off remains of nostalgia*.
It may prove to be an excellent many-men multiplayer.

If milkshape was working I'd throw some models together.

Dragon long anyone? (Just typing that sent shivers of nostalgia down my spine)

This computer has Redhat on dual boot and my other PC, when my mum is not using it I use Ubuntu it to host old games for when me and my best friend are bored.

I guarantee I have slept with more people than you, good day sir.

Nerd drive, Go!

I have Yellow Dog on my PS3. Don't use it much so I might format. And of course my planned Asus Eee PC which I'll install Ubuntu on.

It looks fantastic, I'm wondering if it would work with darker lighting though, that would be an interesting test.

Rofl, and I thought I liked Linux.

This maps owns and it does indeed have an underground level but it's a pain in the ass to navigate as I find it too narrow lol.

Are the gates simply a wall with a door skin or are they destructible movers?

The map is relatively dark as it is. I just upped the gamma in paintshop pro so you can see the screenie better.

The castle gates are movers and are indestructable. Lockpick needed to open from the outside and will reset to locked after a bit.

Ive been involved with linux for around 12 years. Im a distro junkie and have tried pretty much every one available and have settled on Ubuntu, Slackware and XP triple boot.

I still play Runescape under the same name. I can still get on RSC to give you an idea how long Ive played.

lol Runescape. I've never played it or ever seen anyone play it. But I remember when I was around 10-11 years old, I remember almost every kid on my class talking about Runescape and how cool it is :D Back when almost everyone got their first ever high speed broadbands here :D

I played aged 11-12 or so. It had it's fun when half the kids in our class played it, you were racing to level first. Then it got boring lol.
