The A Team' Annual Christmas Contribution 2007, 2008, 2009

Postby James » Thu Dec 24, 09 9:33 am

A few months ago I finished work on my penultimate Deus Ex multi-player modification. Tomorrow I shall be revealing it under PMS' banner because PMS are the only modding group left not to disappoint with empty promises and strive with dedication to release the best and original quality products.

The projects were planned but never came to completion until July 2009, I've spent the last few months compiling and checking everything.

MatchMaps
Christmas 2007

MatchMaps is a collaboration between mappers under my creative guidance. Without spoiling too much it's basically a collection of 6 maps created for 0-Aug and Aug gameplay.
  • Mach: Mach is a reletively small map similar to the exterior of CMD set in a small but deep gorge/canyon. There's two interior buildings and the center of the map there's a bridge to cater between the 5 possible spawn locations. Which oddly enough looks like a plastic disposable shaving razor and that's where it got it's name.
  • Ton: Our only unoriginal product; we have made the Ton into a viable DXMP map and opened up all possible rooms. The lobby area will be a very hectic place!
  • Staircase: Inspired by a shitty dream I had about Mario 64, an experimental map which has players battling it out in heaven. Make sure you secure the gate's after the stairway in Augs as those turrets are deadly considering how vertical this map is.
  • Harm: Map full of hazards, enjoy a lot of water, poison, lava and huge falls. Not fun to play on 0-Aug but hilarious with Augs.
  • Smug: Re-literation of Smuggles, kinda symetric and not as silly. Remade from the ground up. The new skylight window is gorgeous and we've pushed the skybox to the maximum of our imagination to make it look amazing.
  • HouseAtlantic: My Smuggler esqe map. Based on Coheed and Cambria mythos. It's actually similar to Ton's lobby.

Rocket Pro Game
Christmas 2008

Back in 2008 Clix told me about his little experiments with rocket jumping in DXMP but I went on and decided to get people to make a mutator to allow this.
  • All explosive weapons revamped to scan for any enemy in the blast radius; if there isn't the blast will be reduced to a quater of the damage
  • The ability to jump on explosions to propel yourself into the air awkwardly similar to speed augging.
  • A spare mutator with the ability to jump on 2d meshes, this is basically just for fun and a product of DXMP_Heaven, enjoy jumping on gas and fire.

ARX GENUS II
Christmas 2009

I finally managed to find help from the TNM team! http://www.dxalpha.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 054#244054
DXAG as you may know is based off Enemy Territory and Team Fortress, so when I found tom tallian's low poly character classes I screamed with joy at the very thought of revamping DXAG to emulate TF2's (at the time) balanced standards. First thing I did was rip from the actual TF2 then scale all textures to size by stealing from the original game's textures so they aren't low quality. I decided that even then the models would be too short for Deus Ex but then I realized this can only add to my advantage of the eventual map design I dreamed for

  • All 9 classes are intact with their visual greatness thanks to Tom Tallian! http://tomtallian.com/pages/tf2.html
  • Total conversion; you won't recognise it being DX at all except for the interface.
  • Unique playerclasses allow custom animations and variables to achieve effects such as class' speeds. Materialising a true Low Poly TF2 experience!
  • 2 maps! agcp_dustbowl and agdm_granary. agcp and agdm are able to be played without DXAG although not advised for balance.
  • Compatible with original all maps thanks to a interactive actor that spawns near playerspawn clusters to help you choose classes.
  • The ability to have mirrors which the Source engine cannot create!
Classes
Heavy: mini gun, shotgun, fists, ballistic protection augmentation
Soldier: rocket launcher (not instant kill unless direct for weak classes), shotgun, shovel, energy shield augmentation.
Demoman: pipe launcher, sticky launcher, bottle, environmental resistance augmentation
Spy: revolver, knife, cloak augmentation, run silently augmentation
Medic: medigun, ubersaw, regeneration augmentation, emp shield augmentation, power reticulator augmentation
    Scout: scattergun, pistol, pistol bat
Pyro: flamethrower, shotgun, axe vision enhancement augmentation
    Sniper: Sniper rifle, SMG, kukri
Engineer: Pistol, PDA with ability to spawn dispensers, sentry guns (level 2 max) and teleporters, spydrone augmentation
    Civilian [unused]: Umbrella

PMS is a team we made in 2006 to create a map within a few days proving that I can get stuff done even if it's rushed unfocus shit I had fun having a lot of people collaborate.

First post updated with the first project, teasing!

posting for profit. MEDiC:N0HEAlZ reporting in!

iceworld works, it is like the ABC for mapmaker, it may be boring as fuck but it WORKS, which is much much more than can be said about many other custom maps.

Looking forward to it, are those releases as files for use or will someone host them?

They were done from Christmas 2007-2009, it was originally a rushed project but we slown it down. Some other mods are products of older personal projects like FavorHouse, originally unrelated with PMS.

Christmas 2008 gift revealed.

Who gave you permission to modify Arx Genus. I most certainly didn't. Me, as the base programmer. I disapprove.

I AM GLAD YOU ASKED SUCH A WORTHY QUESTION, ALTHOUGH ITS WORTHINESS IS BLIGHTED BY YOUR APPARENT IGNORANCE.

WHEREVER THERE IS STRIFE, THERE IS The A Team.

IF SOMEONE SEEKS TO DESTROY THE DEUS EX COMMUNITY, The A Team IS THERE TO SAVE THE DAY IN ANY MEANS POSSIBLE, WHETHER IT BE CODE SOMETHING, GET SOMEONE TO CODE SOMETHING, OR SEND BEN TO EASTERN EUROPE TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF SOMEONE.

THE COMMUNITY IS STALE, WITH NOTHING NEW BEING PRODUCED. WITH PROJECT 2027 SCHEDULED FOR A RELEASE IN..2027, WE DECIDED THE BEST WAY TO END STRIFE WAS TO RELEASE THIS.

AND RELEASE IT WE DID.

FOREVER, WE SHALL BE THE SILENT CAPITAL LETTERED SAVIOURS OF YOU ALL.
