Ever wanted to have random or not-so-random messages appear from time to time on your server? Just like in the Beginners server? well no you can. This mod is completely serverside, no client dl needed. Simple to set up and once set up there is no need to touch it again except to change text.

Cool, only thing is the download is .rar I noticed. Might be a problem along the line with some people not being able to open it. Just use standard .zip folders. ^_^. Nice mod though. :wink:

Does it loop the messages, or pick random ones, or can you choose yourself? I'd make it like that, that the host can choose how the messages are being picked.

Alex, it does that. You can choose Sequential, Random or disabled. Delay is in config as well as if the messager makes logs for every message given.

I have updated this mod due to some requests by Jon from DXMS.
There was a bug involving the timer not responding to the delay variable, the result of using a byte integer directly in the settimer command, without a typecast. Also, realtime changing of the timer is now available, not need to restart the map.
There are now MetaTags (for lack of better words?) that you insert into the text.
For example:
The current server time is now <time>.
becomes
The current server time is now 12:25PM.
at messagetime.
Commands include:
<time>
<day>
<month>
<year>
<curplayers> //returns the curremt amount of players on the server
<maxPlayers> //max players allowed by the server as set by admin.
<adminName> //returns the adminname as set in the server properties
<adminemail> //returns the adminemail as set in server properties
<servername> //returns the servername as set in server properties
multiple tags and repeated tags are supported within the same message, and lettercase doesn't matter.
Any other ideas for MetaTags would be appreciated.

Note: I am NOT renaming the various versions due to the fact that the mod is completely serverside and isn't downloaded. therefore, version conflicts should not be an issue. I WILL, tho, rename the zip archives, that of one has many versions, they can be told apart.

For coders:
I am thinking of adding a portion that makes a record of the highest scores, and when that person with the highest score kills, a message is broadcast to the p[layers.
IE Lenny and Bob are the only two on the server. Lenny has 5 kills, and Bob only two. Lenny Kills bob and message is sent. then bob kills larry until bob has more kills, then message is sent saying bob has newest high score. the same i want to do with streak.
The only thing, i don't know how to get the serveractor to realize that someone was killed. I tried an override in KilledBy, but that didn't work. should i just create MetaTags and have the message broadcast on a regular basis doing a check each broadcast?

WOW... quick triple post here. v1.2 is done. Added 4 new MetaTags relating to streak and score infos. also included customisable text for if there is noone who holds the titles yet.

I still need to figure out how to make a triggered message relating to someone getting killed. The current way is very messy and grammar becomes an issue on when someone holds the high score vs. when no one has any score.

One more thing; would it be possible to not display a message containing the Kills/Streak meta tags is no-one has those titles, rather than to replace the words?

well, that would be interesting. seeing as they are replaced bits of text, that would be wierd. but i could make kind of a switch tag, kinda like an if statement. if the string starts with this switch tag, and the other tag(s) are in the string and aren't containging anthign then choose different message. i'll look into it.

OK! 1.3 is out. Heres whats changed:

-new metatag: <HighStatsCheck>
>>if this tag is in a line, and that line contains other tags related to highstats, and there is no person with the title for those stats, the message is skipped and anoter one is displayed instead.

-random mode double message check
>> if tthe new message is the same as the last one, a new message is chosen and displayed instead.

-MessageWhenNoPlayers variable
>> if this var is set to true, messages will be sent on an empty server. Very useful alongside Logging set to true to be able to check your strings without having to enter the server.

I think this mod's value is totally under-estimated by most clans/servers.
I've used it in the past and I think it really fills a current need on most servers in DXMP, with quieter servers and less experienced players around, this mod will be invaluable to us in giving admins some peace and quiet and also providing a better service to players.
We'll try to give more specific feedback once it's running again.

yeah not many though. It's a pretty decent mod if you host ALTFIRE or some other stuff, so you don't have to tell someone constantly about how to altfire.. etc.
