Let's play Deus Ex: Invisible War

Episode 16: Nine Worlds

Please don't spoil anything about the game that has not taken place yet in this thread. Discuss this elsewhere.

I'm playing it so you don't have to

What is Deus Ex: Invisible War? -
Deus Ex: Invisible War is a game I don't have to introduce, but we know it as the disappointing sequel to the original game. DXIW was dumbed down by both focus on the Xbox version and bad design changes by Ion Storm. Let's leave it at that.

Personally, I love DXIW and I want to show you the positives (and negatives) of the game without you raging at how the game's mechanics is so different to the original.

About this let's play -
This will be a little different than the Deus Ex LP I did and will instead be a traditional approach, this will be more in-depth and constructive. I may return to or remake my Deus Ex LP like this.

I'm using the unification mod enabling nano-augmented eyes (like in Deus Ex or promotional DXIW images) for personal continuity issues (even if it looks bad on everyone that is not Alex) and custom clothing for Alex D and Billie. To guard my choice on the eyes for the agents: "I'm up to my eyes in biomods" - Alex D. Let's make him look more than just a Guido prick.

I'm mostly doing this for myself and will be submitting it to let's play sites when I'm finished with the series.

Episode 1: Introduction and faces you may not want to remember

After 4 hours of downloading, installing, launching, changing, closing, modifying, querying, crashing, deleting, un-installing, re-downloading, re-installing, modifying, checking, launching I got the game to work.

Welcome to Deus Ex: Invisible War.

Music: Main theme
As soon I blast through the options to prepare myself for the 47th time I wonder to myself why did they even bother to dumb down this game...

Image of the controls I'll be using.

I have more trouble with what developers called simplified controls and have a hard time mapping them. I set it all up but it's still awkward to me, originally to cycle weapons it was TAB and inventory etc were not mapped as "I" yet none of the 2/3 of the keyboard were used at all. Absolutely retarded.

Anyway let's click new game.

Image

That Guido haircut...

Image

Alright let's start.

Crash.

Just kidding.

Music: Seattle Tarsus Apartments

Unlike Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Invisible War has a shoddy way of introducing you to the situation you're in so let me sort it. Your name is Alex D an orphan from Chicago. You're a trainee at Tarsus Academies, a special high-achievers facility similar to the UNATCO training of the first game. You were originally situated in Chicago's Tarsus Academy before the entire city was engulfed in a terrorist attack.

Some staff, you, and your childhood friend Billie Adams were evacuated to Seattle's Tarsus Academy.

So you start off in Alex D's apartment in the Seattle Tarsus Academy. The apartment is similar to any USA college dormitory complete with stereotypical basketball, pick up a datacube giving us a map of the floor I'm on. On the holocomm you receive a live feed from Dr. Leila Nassif.

Image

Alex D: "I've... ... ... Hurr..."

Click for full image:
Image

Before leaving to find Billie, Alex scavenges his apartment for krispie kremes, luckily; we've hit jackpot.

As we go down the hall a ventilation shaft casually kills a guard.

Like seriously, it just casually kills a guard.

Anyway! let's take his ammo clip, talk to the janitor for no reason, and buzz apartment 545 for Billie.

Click for full image:
Image

Image: "Hello there Billie how ar-- OH GOD WHAT IS WITH YOUR PORES"

We leave to the hallway where we notice the cleaning bot again.

Reference of the cleaner bot:
http://www.imagocentre.com/images/77/Bi ... ot_119.png

We take the elevator down to the recreational area and speak to Nassif and the other two trainees

Image

... Leo looks a a little goofy, don't you think?

Anyway totally fine everything is under--ALART
ALART

WE'RE BEING INVADED GO GRAB YOUR EQUIPMENT and multi tools.

Ohhhh alright then!!!!!!!!

We go grab it from Alex's locker but not before hitting the security guard multiple times with the basket ball. I used the multitool straight away on the locker containing the spider bomb. There's these guys called the Order attacking us (Religious fanatics) and a zealot members called Seekers launching an attack like on the Chicago facility (see intro).

Reference of the Order Seeker at the intro (render), click for full image
Image

The guard asks me to try to stay stealthy, I kill the guard and kill the Order goon for extra ammo. Billie is a total BITCH and won't let me behind the locked room Nassif was in earlier and insists I get to the bottom of this mumbo jumbo via ~retarded plot device~ methods. She suggests Alex heads back to his apartment so we take the elevator back up.

And we kill the guard, and the seeker, and raid krispie kremes from Leo's and Klara's apartments. Gotta catch 'em all. We head back to the apartment and she totally does not blow up a hole in my bathroom, I fall through and struggle with realising you have to hold space in to climb a wall instead of auto-grabbing ledges in recent games, on the plus side we end this update with Alex grunting in a very lewd manner.

Episode 2: Laboratory Disorder

We're in the Tarsus Academy labs and we receive a holocomm transmission from Nassif about the situation.

Image
Here's an extract from that conversation:

Image: "The people attacking Tarsus -- are they the ones responsible fo Chicago? What's going on?"
Image: "Exactly. But I don't think they were involved with Chicago. They're a worldwide organization, not a band of terrorists.
Many organizations would like to see us fail. That's prehaps all I should say for now."

...

Image: "We keep our operations secret for a reason, Alex. Don't expect a full debriefing while you're still in danger of being captured. Now install your biomods and get out of there."

There's 3 biomod canisters in the cabinet and datapads elaborating on biomods.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Let's install some.

Image

I've chosen regeneration, strength enhancement (passive) and speed enhancement. All 3 augmentations act like the original game's except I'm aware strength enhancement has a passive ability to increase your inventory slots.

So we leave the labs area after getting scrounging around and discover a female scientist who tells us the Order have re-programmed our security systems turning the usual generic turret camera stealth scenarios. We're told the cameras act pretty much the same as they were in the original game.

Image: "Sounds easy enough."

On the desk there's an interesting datapad.

Image

Nassif calls you and ensures you that everyone else has voyeurist scientists spying on them.

Phew!

So Alex just runs through the room with the camera and turret without paying attention to it, upstairs there's two scientists pleading for help as The Order have bursting through the way we came (RIP turret explaining scientist).

Video of the encounter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpgYDuBgqmc

After the encounter the doctors rush to Alex.

Image: "Well done, Alex D. I just read iny our file that of all the trainees Dr. Nassif picks you as the most likely to support our objectives. She appears to have been right."
Image: "When do I find out what this program is all about?"
Scientist: "When we have you safe inside another Tarsus facility. We can no longer protect ourselves in North America.
Image: "So the research is happening all over the world?"
Image: "First let's get you out of here. I can't offer you much, but I was just repairing this silencer for Leo. Maybe you could make use of it. That should fit most firearms. Good luck. Be careful of turrets and alarms -- the terrorists have reprogrammed them."

We were told that by dead scientist girl.

:(

I accidentally cut him with my knife to receive this bark:

Image

Image

Anyway as we continue we're in a room where there's an illegal biomod canister, yoink!

Image

We install hacking.

There's another datapad on the desk on illegal biomods.

Image

In the room there's some guy explaining how the laser systems work, some explosive some trip wires some gas depending on colour yadda yadda

Image: "WHO GIVES A FUCK, YEAAAA!!!"

We carry on to see a medibot.

Reference of the Piezochem A-V810 Medical bot:
http://i.imgur.com/4XtPm.jpg

Unlike the original game's medibot, the DXIW variant heals you automatically with no action on your behalf. It literally just flies towards you and heal-rapes you if you've got a sore finger.

Anyway we pass through the door and kill one guy, completely fail to be stealth and run away back into vents we should have ran into earlier.

Upon reaching the upstairs of this room there's a another vent leading to the room we were just in for a more stealthy approach, however there's a spiderbot guarding the vents.

We have ourselves a spiderbot grenade from the last level, may as well use it against it.

Spiderbot vs spiderbot:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxb7Mj3QUas

We crawl through the vents and over our friendly spider bot.

Image

Thankfully it did not turn hostile. We approach the next room and take out the guard and salvage everything we can before leaving the laboratories.

As we approach the exit leading to the streets of Seattle, we receive a Holocomm message.

According to the Order's High Augur Lin-May Chen, there's some disputes in her organisation causing a divide of factions. We're suggested we meet with her people in lower Seattle.

We take the elevator out of the academy which completes our first mission.
The game was originally going to be like this with eyes except they couldn't do it properly in game.

Plus the original game's textures are awful.

Here's the textures for the unification mod:
http://www.john-p.com/textures/DX-IW/options.html

I prefer the glow eyes to the hi-res eyes. I also enjoy the new custom skin (I'm using black) for Alex's clothes but I do miss the glowy things. Let's pretend I swaps glows.

Like I said, it's a preference and you aren't the only one to say this.

Before we continue, here's some more backstory on the setting of DXIW:

The game carries on the ending from the original game that assumes JC Denton and Helios merged. The actions of JC Denton in Deus Ex caused the world to descend into a period of war and economic depression known as "the Collapse", during which several factions built themselves into world powers, notably WTO and The Order.

WTO -
Logo: http://imgur.com/bzqoj
The World Trade Organization or WTO is one of the most prominent organizations working to rebuild civilization following the Great Collapse. The WTO is primarily focused on political and economic recovery in North America, Europe and Asia and works in tandem with local governments to establish urban growth and stability while laying the foundations for a new global information network.

The WTO provides the technology to post-collapse city-states that agree to submit to the laws of the WTO charter and live under a certain level of surveillance. WTO funded habitats - known as enclaves - positioned in most major cities allow the WTO to exert its influence over trade and international travel. However this creates a huge divide between the rich and the poor, with the rich residing in the cosy protection of the enclaves while many live like feudal peasants in the streets of the post-Collapse world.

The Order -
Logo: http://imgur.com/4fEXp
The Order was formed by its current leader, a secretive personality known only to the church's members as "Her Holiness", The Order appealed to those who had lost friends and faith during the Collapse. Dedicated to the pursuit of a concept called "natural balance", the Order is against nanotechnology and genetic augmentation. It is also apparently against what it sees as the material greed and commercialism of its main "rival" within the game, the WTO.

The organization's rank and file members are known as "Seekers". All Seekers are members of a smaller group known as a "Shard", which is in turn led by a "Luminon". The next hierarchical level up are called "augurs", led by High Augur Lin-May Chen. Lin-May Chen is seated at the right hand of Her Holiness.

Let's continue.

Episode 3: Enclaves and coffee science

Music: Seattle City Hub & Emerald Suites

We arrive in upper Seattle, a WTO enclave. As mentioned in the backstory post every city in the world is pretty much like India of the present day. Rich societies in one place and just a little 10 minute journey and there's slums.
After the conversation with the guards Billie calls you up asking you to ignore going to the WTO air terminal as she mistrusts them as much as Tarsus and instead try breaking into Nassif's apartment in Emerald Suites to find more on the bio-modification program. She hands you over her apartment code.

Chen calls and asks you to disregard the WTO and continue to the Inclinator.

We're going to do none of the three just yet.

We approach a small park with repeating recorded public service announcement from the leader of WTO.

Speech:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G93rA1UUrjU

Yes, this is the same Chad Dumier from Deus Ex, a key member of the NSF branch in France. As you may recall JC helped him (to success or not) in the Paris catacombs against MJ12. Looks like he dislikes JC for what happened after the merging.

Next to Chad's holocomm there's a datapad:

Image

Click for full image:
Image

We carry on to check inside a Pequods coffee shop. The shop's manager and a customer are talking.

How devious, let's do it.

We steal krispie cremes behind the counter (yeaaa) and carry on downstairs for some reading material.

Image
Image
Image
Image

...

Moving on...

we move back outside and to the higher level of the markets and bump into some Seeker:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JiGohj0EJM

Going to give them a third chance. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times I'm going to kill you and the rest of the Order.

We carry on to the metro even if we're not going to the WTO airport, just have a little nose around. There's a nervous guy at the ticket-booth.

Image: "New fair, five time's the old one."
Image: "Five times? That's quite an increase."
Image: "Uh-huh."
  • One Metro pass, please (250 credits)
  • Don't WTO policies discourage price influctuations? Image
  • Take it easy.
Image: "Don't WTO policies discourage price influctuations?"
Image: "Huh?"
Image: "You know -- the zoning rules, licensing procedures, the constant monitoring of markets. A five-fold price-hike is pretty unusual."
Image: "Uh... Well, I'm not too political."
Image: "You trying to make a quick buck or something?"
Image: "Naw, man... Lay off that scrip'. I'm just sellin' passes."
  • One Metro pass, please (250 credits)
  • Take it easy.Image

Image: "Take it easy."
Image: "Uh-huh."

LOOKS LEGIT

Not, we continue back to the entrance of the metro to find a vent and we do this (includes the previous conversation):

Heh, anyway after this pointless escapade we got a shotgun, it's alt-fire mode shoots out a smoke grenade.

We go back out and stop outside the Emerald Suites where we will cover our next episode.
:) Thanks.

As quoted from other forums:

The idea with the Let's Play was to remind people about the game, give a new perspective and offer myself to spend time to play it so 'they don't have to'.

I'm closely mimicking the style of The Dark Id's posts for his NIER let's play:
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showth ... id=3382650

(NIER is another underrated sequel, but unlike DXIW, NIER was better than the predecessor, but very underrated.)

The journal/somethingawful/text based updates are definitely easier + much more fun than voice commentary video LPs.

Episode 4: "Nothin' like a good smoke."

So we're in Emerald Suites, some wealthy apartment complex I think.

Janitor and first floor:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq1y-e6aEpo

Hey a map.

Click for full size:
Image
Let's have a little look around:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOXQp1-Dlu4

Anyway... let's see if we can drop into Nassif's apartment.

Datapads in Nassif's apartment:

Image
Image

Oh hey, as we look around there's a biomod canister, we can upgrade biomods if we don't want to install a new one, so... let's upgrade...

Image
Image

My ARMS!; now we can carry more!

Image

For your information, they're totally Krispie Kremes.

Let's move back to the vents to see what that grumpy guy from next to Nassif's apartment is up to.

Heeey that wasn't nice, regardless we got a bunch of goodies (including a few bullets), also, SSC guards really don't care about people do they?

Data:

Image
Image
Image

We also picked up a boltcaster, it acts exactly like the mini-crossbow from Deus Ex with tranquilliser rounds. Alt-fire zooms in.

Let's head upstairs, I use the intercomm on the door and the residents respond they're busy.

Busy?, better infiltrate.

Yes, I shat myself, no word of a lie. Luckily as you may have seen in the video the EMP grenades in DXIW's alt fire mode causes them to explode on contact.

There's a box on the wall to disable the security protecting the skylight windows to the apartment. We disable it.

Let's look around... Oh, what's this... TRIP LASERS?

We salvage this place, we find and take a sniper trading the pistol in for it as we can use the boltgun for the usual pistol purposes.

We find this datapad too:

Image
Image

We carry on back to the start, go up the stairs we originally went to get through the vent to see the janitor still shitting himself and unlock the door to get to the penthouse.

We'll cover that in episode 5.
Time to talk about my least favourite mechanic in Deus Ex: Invisible War: Universal fucking ammo.

There was no real relevant time to explain this in-depth and it would have looked ugly between the trip laser and coffee sciences.

Mako Ballistics -
Logo: http://i.imgur.com/FTcJW.png
You can make it with Mako
Mako Ballistics is a major arms manufacturer after the Collapse. Their headquarters are found on the outskirts of Seattle in 2072.

Since the invention of universal ammo, Mako Ballistics became the world's largest supplier of firearms, manufacturing almost all guns available in the world.

Universal ammo -
Reference: http://i.imgur.com/Mg3mx.jpg
The universal ammo is a invention of Mako Ballistics after 2052 which allows all weapons used the same ammunition. The explanation is that the weapons use nanotechnological devices to transform raw materials in the magazines into bullets. As a result in 2070, almost all real ammunition disappeared to the benefit of the universal ammo.

Of course, this is lore behind the drastic change of ammo between Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War.

This is the mindset of the developers during DXIW's development:
"Future is more advanced, what... what if we had shared ammo for all weapons? This means more ammo!"

This is the mindset of the players after DXIW was released:
"This is absolutely retarded, if I run out of ammo for one gun I run out for all of them. Also, why would I be able to shoot rockets with the same material that creates poison darts...?"

Is your glass half full or half empty? Yes it is and so is everyone else's at the table.

I don't understand why Ion Storm created universal ammo because no other console game I can think of was like this. If they truly made it for the lore, why they couldn't have introduced superior nanite technology without it being universal lost me a little.

The universal ammo is a really weird invention, yeah. I remember having to restart the game, as i had emptied a flamethrower for fun. Took me a while to find out what happened to the ammo in ALL of my guns :(

Thanks.

I will cover it at the start of the next update. I forgot all about it too, but I will not be using it. I am going to find all special weapons (if I don't forget again) even if I don't use them in the end.

Next to the inventory and belt it's the truly the worst thing about DXIW. It was an utterly terrible design decision. Thankfully the team at Eidos Montreal have seen this and we will not have weird combat mechanics as frustrating as the universal ammo, saying that, the director/producer admire DXIW though but I'm sure Jean said that he dislikes how far the game was in the future, put a point across that there's nothing to relate to with the locales and technology.

Hopefully someone doesn't get offended by me mentioning names of weapons we haven't seen yet. But I want to imagine some nerd reads this post sniffing behind his computer saying:
"Nner nner he said he will not spoil the game, he spoiled the content. I'm boycotting, I'm going to see if this forum has rep so I can downvote his posts.

That's it, I'm going to sign up to find out!!!
"

Still as a notice we should be careful with what we discuss in this thread, even items. Thankfully one of the big plot points is coming up soon.

I made a blooper with the last update, I'm not going to go back and rectify it, so I'm going to mention it here:

Remember that totally grumpy guy who shot us in the face?, if you look under his pillow as shown:

Image

Unique combat-knife - Toxin Blade
"Prototype special forces combat knife. Microporous metal releases toxins on contact. Designed for political assassination"

Hitting an organic target with it will cause them to convulse briefly and die silently.

We're not going to use this. Sorry guys.

Moving on.

Episode 5: Penthouse and Club Vox

Out of curiosity we're infiltrating on the private penthouse suite of Seattle's Minister of Culture.
Image

Let's carry on up the stairs and open up the secret room.

Images of the datapad:

Image
Image

Mag-rail and Knight's Templar?, will want to actually check up with the WTO about whatever these are, eventually. Also, we got ourselves an energy sword. Fuck yes.

Let's fuck off out of the Emerald Suites, I heard someone talk about a nightclub at some point...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RfUMBgfhn0

Image

Image: "CLUB VOX MOTHERS!!!"

In Club Vox you'll hear music from Kidneythieves, the music used for NG Resonance. There's 5 tracks used in DXIW from their Trickster album.

Music:

Little tour of the club, got my money back too haha!

Before you continue reading this let's play, please drink 6 of these:

Image

Drink it?, good now you can be immersed. Post in this thread if you like it, I can't fucking stand it.

Anyway let's go to the bar.

Feel violated?, good now you can be immersed. Post in this thread if you like it, I fucking love it.

Let's see what's upstairs again, some guy is muttering insane shit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXGICC96dEE

Kittens, what is he referring to?

There's a guy in the upstairs bar that got fired from Pequoad's because he wouldn't sabotage a rival company, sounds familiar to what we've been asked to do, except I have all intent to do it.

Two people hanging over a balcony overlooking the entrance, let's see.

If you go through life as a homicidal maniac tranquillising lawyers and throwing their body to a flaming death, you get through life with fat payments.

Ah, here's an interactive AI avatar of NG Resonance, a famous musician.

Why is an AI asking me about what's behind the VIP doors in a nightclub for the WTO?...!?

Now I'm intrigued so let's see.

Stealing a carcass of an animal that may or may not actually exist or be transgenic?, cool.

This is the way to the basement right?

Nope, the club owner's office, datapad on the Omar presence:

Image
Image

Looking under the desk...

Image

Bingo, wanted an automatic weapon.

Datapad in the safe, and a key to the basement:

Image

Oh
my
God

She's snooping on us, she knows EVERYTHING we do. This is just wrong, who gave HER my feed for EVERYTHING?

I can huff and puff all day but let's get to that basement, guard in the way so let's improvise.

Entire club is in chaos, managed to steal money and no one knows who stunned him. Yes-s-s.

We unlock the door to the basement, what's this!?

Image

Trip-wires?

Image

Boxes!

Image
Image

BORING CLIMBING SOLUTIONS?!

Oh hey the basement and some massive cyro canister or whatever of transgenic creature.

Image

It's a Gray. Oh dear.

Image
Image

We upgrade hacking and buy EMP discharge, that's all the augmentations we'll be using for this let's play.

We're done with the club for now, not reporting anything to NG because I don't want to ruin any possible relations with the Omar, that would not be wise.

I'm heading to Lower Seattle but we'll have to go through to the inclination elevator first, before that I want to equip our new SMG with a modification.

Image

We can use it to melt glass and disable any security behind it, awesome:

Episode 6: Reforming

So I'm minding my own business going to the inclinator, and this thug is like

and I'm like, whatever.
Image

Let's go in.

Some woman in a suit is instructing two mechanics with the same voice actor...

So we're going to either have to repair the Nanoformer or flush out the systems, also, shit, I missed an image of the Gray from earlier, let me rectify that:

Image

Also, defence bots?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR-LTekibMI

Eze, but let's go through this well hidden vent.

Image

Image

On the other-side there's another bot, let's use our new EMP discharge's passive ability.

Just a quick note, I am not going to mention every minor item I've picked up. I pick up grenades on a 5 minute basis. I literally search all rooms.

Door to the Nanoformer and inclinator...

Image

Fuck that, let's head upstairs.

Office here above where we killed the first bot, there's a little window in the office showing the inclinator and Nanoformer but it's not that great so I didn't screenshot it, on the other hand there's a bulletin board here:

Image

There's a vent in the room that leads to this catwalk.

Image

There's two vents either-side to get to the lower levels or the side directly in front of us to the flush system, but we're going to ignore this because we've got augmentations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tulAxnp23E

Image

Let's hack it to complete the objective.

Seriously, she is a fucking stalker... Jesus fucking Christ leave me alone.

We head down to check the area for goodies.

Image

Heh!, it's not like we had to use an item to hack anyway.

Near the broken Nanoformer there's a repair bot, like the DXIW medibot, it repairs you automatically.

Let's get the repairbot out of it's cupboard with a multi-tool so it can heal the Nanoformer.

Reference of the Piezochem W31V Repair bot:
http://i.imgur.com/jm6rQ.jpg

Reference of the Nanoformer
http://i.imgur.com/pVOys.jpg

Let's go see that trapped maintenance guy.

Okay, this is rule 1 of RPGs of any type: There should be a code for everything so you don't have to use consumable items.

BUT STILL

Let's head back to the director for a reward.

Creepy, creepy.

Let's head down the inclinator to get to Lower Seattle.

Image

CRUNCH

Image

After getting off the stop we're getting some items around here before leaving to Lower Seattle slums.

Image

Image

One shot kill, but disappeared without an explosion.

There's a locked door with a keypad but I'm not wasting any more money,
going to use the alt-fire of a concussion mine to settle this.

Image

Image

Image

Got a few items up there including a weapon add-on that converts damage to EMP.

That's it for the inclinator, see you next update for a life of poverty.
Episode 7: GOB-ZILLA!

Music: Seattle Lower Seattle & Heron's Loft

Image
As we arrival in the dark slums of Seattle we see two bums hanging around a flaming bin.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxA2o0rFVCQ

We'll visit The Greasel Pit in time, it's right next to her, for your information...

Image

We go down this sewer to fight a few Karkians, I didn't have any footage of it I apologise but one managed to bite me for 1/4 of my health. Ouch.

Image

Under the sewers there's an Omar corpse, but if you move it a little...

Image

There's a weapon!

Unique Pistol - Red Gresel Hunter
Street-modified 9mm, equipped with infrared stealth light. Used by mercenaries collecting sewer greasel bounties.
Basically it's an ordinary pistol with a better light, sod it. Shit. Not picking it up.

(I'm still really sorry about the karkian fight, fraps crashed without me knowing and I saved after the fight!)

We get out of the sewer and explore the streets.

Image

Image

We upgrade hacking to max level, we can now convert turret systems against hostiles.

Image

Interesting datapad above.

Image

Picked up one of the flamethrowers, might come in handy. Will want to mess with that napalm.

I haven't really logged the announcer news terminal thingies because they've been trivial so far, but these two stories will interest you.

Image
Image
Image

Image
Image

Behind us, wait is that.

Image

SABOTAGE

How to sabotage a coffee shop:
  • Hide in a bin and shoot the window

  • Read more books on coffee science
Image
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKHDQoCwd3k

Congratulations, you're a fully fledged coffee shop saboteur!!

END OF THE LET'S PLAY
Thanks for playing!

Don't be stupid, moving on.

We head back where Mack and Lucy where to go visit...

Image

Upon entry:

Image: "No active weapons in the Greasel Pit. First I gotta transmit the safety-lock codes to freeze anything you're carrying. Then I let you in. Otherwise, take a hike."
Image: "Go ahead. Send the code."
Image: "Thanks. There's sensors that will reactivate everything on your way out. You're clear to go in now."

No fighting in here I suppose, well, except the greasels.

For a ruddy bar it has more attendance than CLUB Vox, woman and male arguing over here.

Another mission. Looks like Jock from the previous game doesn't he?, sounds trusty, got a jet too, awesome!

Image

Note on red greasels at the bar:

Image

Oh boy, variants.

Oh hey!, there's Leo!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf12RBOMZfQ

Joining the Omar?, wow. I wonder what Tarsus think about putting their money down the drain them joining obscure black market dealers.

For your information the room is littered with grafiti, seems to be blood on the wall next to the NG Jukebox (It's not an AI construct, sorry.) and some more stuff as followed:

Image

Image

There's a conversation with some cool cat and an Order Seeker.

Image: "But I TALKED to Mr. Paladin, one-on-one. He laid it all out, straight up."
Image: "Uh-huh..."
Image: "The Templars STAND for something, you know? It's ancient, it's philosophy, it scrip's the paps off all that Her Holiness love an' meditate an' mumble to yourself."
Image: "These guys are mercenaries. They pitch whatever creed their boss tells them to."
Image: "You just haven't ever really studied the Knights Templar. They have the same basic ideas as the Order Church, but they believe it, they fight for it, and they don't rip off a bunch of other religions."
Image: "Her Holiness wants to bring everyone together. It's called koinonia -- fellowship and communication. Yeah, koinonia... I think it's greek."
Image: "You seekers are just little parrots, cheep-cheep-cheep, repeating a new batch of words every week."

There's a little side corridor before you get below to the actual greasel pit fights, there's a room that catches our eye.

Helicopter pilot huh?, will eventually get to the WTO...

Image

Brings us to two pilots willing to play with us. Hm.

Let's head down into the pits.

DEUS EX: THE CONSPIRACY TO FIX GAMBLING

Let's head to Heron's Loft, a run down hotel similar to the 'ton from Deus Ex.

Image

Climb up here, peer through the first window, cats, okay. Second windo--

Oh god.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z40Msk2jys

Image

...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FgP9-bLU1A

Little bug there, weapon wouldnt zoom in or shoot as you could see. Still, absolute disappointment, ignoring the owner (and killing her cats) I find this lengthy material:

Image
Image
Image

Now let's get Sid "Not Jock" Black's jet back.

Image
Image

JUST LIKE THE 'TON

Oh yes, coffee warfare. I'm a double agent of beans. Also more reading material on coffee:

Image

Plus this:

Image
Image

Fun. Some stuff I found in her offices:
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

So we move to the hangar, nothing interesting here at all.

Just a fight.

Image

Reading stuff:

Image
Image
Image

Turned on/off the beacon next to it (on/off made noises, don't care) I also upgraded my shotgun and picked up an ammo scavenger add-on.

Image

Increased radius and fire rate.

Let's get back to Sid.

Now, the betting.

Gut feeling there, knew it would smack me in the face with troll writing.

For the next episode we will be heading to the Order Church.
(What a big update... normally these are done for 15-30 minutes, this is an hour's worth of content.)

Had to change most of the lesser important videos into links because loading the visuals of this topic destroyed my phone. :)

The page is still silly to scroll *cough spoiler boxes cough* but it shouldn't slow your PC down to a stop!, luckily if we get to the next page as often as possible we'll have a little hope.

I didn't expect this, posts are as long on SA (but one update per 15 reply pages) but from my knowledge they don't have embedded videos enabled, i.e http://forums.somethingawful.com/showth ... =390590150

Screenshots then videos of the highlights afterwards, sadly I don't think this is appropriate for a game like DXIW. I do have the time (it may be quicker) to type up transcrip's (heh) of all characters but I'm also trying to make an archive of most/all conversations.

Also for your information:
When some speech is normally in italics it is completely made up and not actually said in the game.
I play 15 minutes to 1 hour of gameplay, I type up everything and host every image in 10 minutes. It's the rendering of the videos and uploading them to YouTube that takes 1-4 hours. If I had it my way I would blast through an act in 2 days.
Speaking of acts, I will be taking a week break after reaching a new one, except for Cairo, I will be juggling Portal 2 with that.
The generic avatars for minor characters mean nothing other than what the picture is, for example a girl with a hoodie and a stylish jazzy looking guy.

Once I get to Cairo I consider it an LP I am going to finish, I will be posting it on Steam and EM forums first. I used a test thread and they seemed open to enjoy the idea of it.

I will be using a more screen-shot heavy episodes until the finale of Act 1.

Dear God no, that would change the writing process from 10 minutes to 10 hours with a lot more grammar/spelling mistakes.

I check this thread after each update on my phone (HTC Desire) and my mother's pc (My PC from 2006, with the graphics card I played DXIW for the 2nd time on.) to see how well they perform when they view this topic.

The PC has no problems now, the phone actually does load the thread but crashes from the amount of flash files.

Scrolling is still a pain no matter the computer, really would like spoiler boxes.

Episode 8: Order

Image
The Order Church, the two on the left are conversing.

Image: "WTO Chairman Dumier is irredeemable. He has led too man down the path of greed and disorder."
Image: "In time, we will open their eyes."
Image: "We are so fortunate that Her Holiness found us before Dumier could invade our spirits with such ruthless and selfish competition."
Image: "Each of them knows in his or her heart that something is still missing -- true order. And soon, they will begin to seek it, and we will help them."
Image: "Yes, we will share with THEM the compassion and peace Her Holiness has shown US."

We approach the male of the two.

Image: "Welcome to the Order sanctuary for this city, Alex D. We've been expecting you."
Image: "It wasn't exactly easy getting here."
Image: "We appreciate your dedication."
Image: "I did what I had to."
Image: "Please step inside. Join us for meditation. Her Holiness awaits your presence."

Let's go listen to her then.

Knight's Templar is definitely another sect then, hiring thugs and the like and converting Order members, let's sort this problem out for these folks.

We arrive at the inclinator, and...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqfMrssZ2Gk

I FUCKING HATE THE FLAMETHROWER, but that's just the awful alt-fire which I think HAS to hit a surface to work. So lame.

Image

Guy on the stand next to the lift. Eze.

Let's sort out that captain then.

That was easy... too bad about the room. Some objective data:
Image
Image

Debriefing.

We are not going to hire Sid Black, we're going straight to the WTO terminal for the next update.
Image
Image
An explanation on the two pilots, Sid is the one that charges and makes the game easier for you in return. We're going with Ava each time for this runthrough because I prefer the difficulty.
Episode 9: WTO

Image
We're here in the terminal and there's a WTO captain ahead of us gegging to talk.

Image: "Ah, Alex D. Nice work in the inclinator there. The WTO appreciates your work to keep the commerce routes open. And Chief Morgan has had a lot to say about you."
Image: "I haven't had the chance to talk to her yet."
Image: "She's in Europe right now, but she'll address you from the holocomm in her office, hang a right, and look for the management wing on your left."

We get a infolink feed from Ava addressing us where she is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc-stmzBRB4

We aren't finished with the captain yet however, still more to be said.

Image: "The WTO could really use an agent like you, and we could offer you a kind of mobility no one else can."
Image: "What do you mean?"
Image: "As you know, after the Collapse, it was the WTO that started putting the pieces together, creating safe, clean, profitable enclaves, and opening up and regulating trade between them. With this web of structures in place globally, we can offer an agent many opportunites in many locations."
Image: "The WTO does some admirable work, but couldn't it lead to the same kind of overcentralization that made the world so vulnerable to the Collapse in the first place?"
Image: "Far from it. We're encouraging relations between the enclaves, not complete mergers. We want to keep competition dynamic and individuality vibrant."
Image: "They're all good intentions..."
Image: "You could be a part of it. Your fellow student from Tarsus, Klara Sparks, has already accepted a position here. Think about it."
Image: "We're trying to create a new peace, where everyone has access to goods that they need, and has a mutual interest in keeping commerce flowing."

The terminal is full of stranded citizens with delayed flights due to the Chicago scenario.

Pressing forward we approach someone we haven't seen in awhile.

Interesting, anyway let's continue to Morgan's office to have a face to holocomm face conversation with her for once.

Upon arriving there's a book that catches my eye:

Image
Image

Interesting read, also looks like both have disappeared off the map.

As we try to read the second book we're interrupted.

We're given two objectives here, infiltrate Mako:
  • Kill the creator of the Mag-rail for The Order
  • Take the schematics for the WTO
Decisions...

Oh, the second book:

Image

Anti-climatic compared to the Denton book...

While we're at the WTO terminal, may as well collect our reward for Club Vox's finances.

What a dick, and that conversation with the SSC woman proved to be a little suspicious. Let's hack the records permitting QueeQuegs entry into Upper Seattle.

Image

Sorted.

Hmm, his login details are here too in the cupboard...

Image

LOL

Also another silencer, may as well start using some spares. I equip the boltcaster with a silencer.

BEFORE WE MOVE ONTO WHAT SEEMS TO BE AN RPG GOLDEN RULE:
What do you do before attempting plot missions?
Complete side-quests because you may not be able to return!
And that's what we're going to do, time to head to Peequod's!

Image: "The coffee's destroyed."
Image: "Yeah? All of it?"
Image: "They'll have to replace the entire inventory."
Image: "Good work, Tarsus man. Here's your compensation. I wonder what lucky corperations get to hire the Tarsus grads."
Image: "I'm afraid the school keeps its industry contracts classified, even from us."
Image: "I would expect as much, considering the hostile business climate. Anyone get hurt earlier tonight during the bombing or whatever it was?"
Image: "Some scientists. It was more like a raid."
Image: "Interesting. The Order doesn't usually get tangled up in corporate rivalries."
Image: "Well, thanks for the credits. I better be going."
Image: "Now I can expand into Lower Seattle without worrying too much about price-point."

Now to head to Heron's Loft to go speak to the QueeQueg's manager!

Image: "I took care of the zoning."
Image: "It's for real, then? You came through? My lawyer just called a minute ago -- I thought he was kidding."
Image: "Now what about the compensation."
Image: "Oh, sure, sure. I might end up the first QueeQueeg's manager ever to do business inside a WTO enclave. That's worth SOMETHING. Here you go."
Image: "Thanks. Good luck with the new branch."

Alex D is an asshole.

Anyway let's sprint off back to the WTO enclave and free Ava.

Doo do doo doo

Arrived.

Episode 10 will be here today, I was playing Portal 2 with an American yesterday, fun co-op but mega boring at times.

Tantalus wrote:This is actually great.

Seriously get back in to LP's, that aren't Limbo of the Lost.

The best thing is that my Limbo LP's first part is linked to a tvtropes Wiki for the terrible videogame itself, it's my most visited LP. :(

Somehow, because of this, I'm in two player's feedback lists for making a good LP but, it's, terrible.

Episode 10: Mako Ballistics
(This episode will primarily be videos, images and text take a backseat because in missions where there's action I'm going to mostly show gameplay.)

Hey look, it's Stan!, from the Tarsus Academies! We seen her on the holocomm when the Seattle Tarsus Academy was attacked and was speaking in the intro of the game when Chicago got ruined... Wait a minute, project director?!

Oh, he also has the same voice actor as Walton Simmons in Deus Ex, interesting, let's all jump to conclusions.

That two legged thing is known as a Hunter Seeker, it's fast, goes invisible and shoots a death ray/matter beam at enemies. See how much it took off me?

We approach the weapon labs.

Yup, I took it. Just looking around this room some more.

Image

I upgrade the mag rail.

Image

More bang for less buck.

That bug annoyed me.

Some reading material:

Image
Image

Let's head to the Biolab.

Very cryptic indeed of Nassif, still, I've had enough of Oroborous references since the Neverending Story.

Looks like our friend got a little excited.

Some stuff on our friend:

Image

This too:

Image

Let's find out where Nassif is in this place.

Right, that confirms the ApostleCorp group then. They're adapting biomods to be used by anyone via genetic manipulation, which the WTO and The Order certainly oppose for their told reasons if you've been following, I assume the Templar wouldn't like this either with their purity thing.

ANYWAY

We found a biomod behind Stan!

Image
Image

Upgraded speed enhancement.

There was also the Joan book next to the message from Nassif.

We're done here, let's leave.
