I'm not sure, but somewhere i heard that lame - optimal - good optimization is related to polygons. I think it makes map compatible to slow computers using compressing of polygons (not its size). I also proved it but i saw no result in comparing map before optimization to map after optimization. Size of map after optimization change to + 10 kb (that was big map, 1.7 mb unzipped).
