New Gun Idea

I've been re-playing a game lately (which is rare) and I noticed that one of the weapons that we don't have in DX is a bombarding weapon (no HE and GEP doesnt count). So I am saying to make a gun that shoots one shell that explodes (during the flight) and spreads into millions of mini-bomblets. I haven't taken the time to read other post so I apologise ahead of time if an idea similar to this, is already posted.
