I want to learn how to skin (altering an existing skin that is). So I would like some advice or some nice tutorial links and, if there is any, skining tools/programs for DX models.
Basicly i just want to alter couple of details on simple skins (like making a black MJ12, can only see his mouth and nose, should be easy lol) and some couple other things.
While "googling" i come across a nice site that had a 3D view of the skin ur painting, but it was for UT, i wonder if such tool exist for DX.
Also what painting programs would you recommand ( i have Photoshop).

You need photoshop,

I Recommend CS versions..

Well while you have the photoshop, go to unreal ed

Come to "DeusExCharacters" And then export the MJ12 Troop's texture.
(Well i couldnt find the texture, so i am using an example.. lol...)

Now while you imported as BMP or PCX, open it with photoshop.

Now, you see it open. Just change it to RGP Mode,

They are many ways you can make it black...

First:

You could just use the brush tool and make it black, But it will be dirty....

Second: You could right click brush tool and then just select the "Color replacement Tool" And select the black color and just do it near its nose and stuff...

Third: You could just copy its near skin or from some other picture with the tool called "Healing brush tool" And "Clone Stamp Tool"

The healing brush can copy things from the surface, but it will heal a bit so it will match the skin where you did the healing tool, what i do is first do "Clone Stamp Tool" and then i just paste something in its nose to the things i want to cover, and then i will use the healing brush tool..

So basicly healing brush tool doesnt help at all..

Lets just forget about the healing tool lol?

Fourth: Select the place where you want to do it black, with the tool called "Polygonal Lasso Tool"

Just select the surfaces, while its selected, go to "Image>Adjustments>Variations"

And then do it darker and more black you can.

You could multiply these ways and try until you get satisfied.

So ye.. maybe i will tell you how to copy things from other pictures with those 2 tools..

Also, i forgot,

There is one more thing, when you import the picture first do this...

(when your done making it black,red etc etc... then do this.. because dx only takes 8 bit of textures or so..)

DX Will not load those textures if you dont do that.. So please try what Aquashock said.

ok i got this problem (lol i always somehow get in trouble ) when i try to save, it says " file must be saved as a copy with this selection" pointing at Layers, I didnt add any layer and didn't change anything (apart from saturation and variations)
I did set to Indexed colors back and set palette to Local (Selective)

If i click save (ignoring this) i get an empty picture. :no:(: :smt100 ](*,)

possibly you need to deselect first

Ok I finally made some new NPC with my new textures (took me a while to understand that the new textures have to be inside the .U file and not in a separate .utx file) .
Evrything is fine but somehow my new npc walks fast (!!!) realy fast, i didnt do anything in the Default properties exept adding my textures in Multiple skins (of course) and changing his Collision to 47.5 (Height) and 20 (radius) (like its said in the UC tutorial)
I tryed to rebuild the package but still got the same problem, anyone have an idea about this. Please :)

edit: if i lower the ground speed in properties>Mouvment (like set it to 100)
he will walk slower but he will also run slower...
i checked the mouvment properties of my npc and PaulDenton they look exaclty the same.... :(

edit: still cant figue out why the hell my npc walks with the speed of 320 instead of 100 (he runs with the speed of 320 too) if i change his speed he will run and walk with the new speed :(

i compiled it myself with .uc files the folder had 2 folders (classes and textures) in classes it had 3 uc files 1 npc 1 carcass 1 textures.uc.
it compiles it into 1 .u file without problems, i can spawn my new npc the usual way (like any other npc) the only prob is tha he walk the same speed that he runs.
edit: just anytime i creat a new npc ( select scripted spawn and select add new, under military or whatever) the npc walks realy fast.... i duno why.
changing groundspeed under properties doesnt help.

PM me the Code of the NPC if you can...

And yeah, You dont actually have to import.. All i do is. Just open unreal Ed. Import Texture, Name it as something.utx and save it in the texture folder, And then i add the line in the top of the class.

Here is what i add:-

#exec OBJ LOAD FILE=something

And save the file!

Also when your doing something from the texture, you will need to type

"Multiskins(0)="something.insidetexturename";"

Like that. Hopefully you will understand me i hope...

i did all that lol, its not the problem , the problem is with any NPC i create they walk faster, i guess somthing must be changed in default properties but i duno what...
