About Textures: Having trouble while making PINK transparent.

Postby ~DJ~ » Tue Apr 21, 09 11:12 am

Okay, I've tried the Tack's tutorial about how to make PINK transparent, But I fail, Yes, My backround has R=255 G=0 B=255, And everything is fine, I use photoshop CS3, And I need serious help about this-- I fail every time..

So, Yeah, I am making a crosshair, and its NOT transparent.. :/

So how will I make PINK transparent? in CS3.

Thanks in advance!

Don't worry about the pink and all them other colors. I tried many tutorials and I failed at making a masked texture. I figured it out though. Ok lets say you have a layer with what you want shown. Now the parts you want to mask should just be empty, no color or background. Now go to Image/Mode/Index color and choose Local (selective) from the Palette, and make sure transparency is checked. You may want to change the Matte color to what you think blends in with what your using it on, usually black. Press OK. Now go to File and Save As, and select the format to be .pcx. Now save it, and import it. Thats it.

What IF my transparent thing should be pink?

I used CUSTOM>Selected PINK, did R=255,G=0,B=255

And, eh, Imported to DX, Still not transparent... :/

EDIT:

Can YOU do it from me?

Here-- Take this, And tell me how YOU did it, Okay?

You need to tick "Masked" option while importing the texture in UnrealEd, or if you're doing exporting with Unreal script, specify this is in the export code.

I personally don't use Photoshop, but in my program I had to open the palette and manually move the color to the very beginning of it.

Great!

Well, Yeah I noticed too, It isn't working.

Making Black mask texture is easy-- Open paint, Select paintbucket tool, And then select black, Do it as black areas from there, and save as BMP:

Second way is--

Open Photoshop, Do some design, make the backround black, and then save as somewhere as "BMP" and import, Done.

BUT, Local (selective) should be done, indexed color, and while importing, Tick the MASKED.

Creating BLACK mask texture is easy, I want pink :S

EDIT: Also, Please... Add me to TREM group at your forums, so I can see that section too, I am also a TREM member too.. :/

First I was TREM, Then later on i joined S101 too. :D

Thanks in advance for even replying man!

Thanks alot, But eh, Its black? o_O

I wanted PINK IT GAVE ME BLACK!

Lol how come you did it on BLACK and imported the shadow too?

Maybe you changed the shadow color to a bit brighter, not black (R=0, G=0, B=0)

When I import it as a texture masked, there is no background. I just see the crosshair with the shadow.

Try this one then... ya picky foo.

EDIT... hmm this one is the same... but still IT SHOULD WORK FOR WHAT YOUR DOING! TRY IT NUB!

When you look at the texture in properties, it has a black background, but it still is MASKED! IT WORKS!

Does Unreal support partially transparent pixels? Say if I wanted a part of texture to be solid, part invisible, and part half-transparent? Or blendng transparency....
