It has being said from many friends That DX masterserver is down for maintenance.

They have no profit of it.

I wonder if they will still keep Dx masterserver.. or its there lie that its in maintenance (or they dint said anything.. only some guys are lying about this) but i think it will come back..

Whats your opinion?

If it's going down for maintenance then it will be coming back up. GameSpy should also notify all server hosters if it does go down or not, but whether they will is a whole different story.

To me, DXMP is not a good investment for them, and if I were in their shoes I would probably be closing it down myself, even though I love Deus Ex. Nobody plays it and they don't get jack shit money from it (if they even get anything at all).

GameSpy and other companies are constantly moving forward, they set up masterservers for games people actually want to play (another game that will probably get it's MP shutdown is Dungeon Siege 1/2, because nobody goes on it) and that people do play.

The oldest game I've played that GameSpy host a MS for was Neverwinter Nights, that game was made in 2004 and it's multiplayer is still widely popular (possibly because of the vast amount of crap you can do with the Aurora Toolset). The oldest game I've ever played multiplayer in general was Half-Life and Unreal Tournament (the first ones).

So don't be surprised if GameSpy do shut down the DX masterserver.

Yes, but what will happen to the people who are spending their money on a server, already payed, perhaps for a year?

About 1 year ago I visited No One Lives Forever multiplayer, hosted by Gamespy. There were about 6 servers with 4 online players, all of them on the same server. The game itself is good, but it's dead.
Considering that GameSpy didn't shut down that one, they shouldn't shut down Deus Ex either as it's much more popular than NOLF MP.

Hosting a masterserver takes literally nothing especially when you host thousands of other masterservers. Closing one would damage the reputation of the company, they don't want that.

If GameSpy actually closed the masterserver, you could kindly ask Zora to contact the guy whom we contacted during the winter'07 events.

Also I'd like to ask for a <s>sau</s>source of information that the current downtime is caused my maintenance.

That's true, considering they still host Baldur's Gate and NOBODY plays that. THERE ISN'T A SINGLE SERVER on the damn thing.

Even if it was to go down, would it be possible to pay for a server/website and host a server off that?

You mean a paid masterserver? First we should find out if such thing has happened before. Sounds weird.

Deja set up a system to see the server registry, and even the 0 aug servers are visible.

So you can scratch the deja idea.
