GameSpy master server offline per May 31

Effective May 31, 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy.
If you have any questions about how this impacts your favorite title please contact the game’s publisher for more information.

Crisis maybe averted, Talked to Deja and he has a Master Server Address, master.dxmp.in. Add it to the uplinks in the deusex ini. and also download this http://freeweb.t-2.net/dev1/files/mms_1.0.0.zip read the 'readme.txt' file and follow the instructions.

To be honest going by forums I sometimes view he seems to be well received now, but yeah.

Hello didnt see this topic when I added my other so sorry guys

My backup ms is running mine is one of the official unreal 227 backup masterservers, but also have one for Deus Ex

The other topic has it all: master2.oldunreal.com port is 27500 for uplink
And its query port is 25900
I put instructions in a topic on thc forums and the other one here options for ini change is either the community persuading steam to update inis and edit inis of any filesharing isos anyone might do however being a very quiet game the inevitable was due to happen a mod that allows viewing of multiple masterservers is an idea especially due to the nepthys rejection bug of UCC. I am amazed it held out this long the unreal community had backups established with 227 years back

EDIT: someone else is attempting to uplink but a mismatching nepthys version results in what is shown here on the MS log, if its a paid server the IPDrv and Nepthys DLL versions are supplied in this file you need to replace them to the later version which is the same version the masterserver bears:

Note that 181 is the ammount of heartbeats rejected since i reset the application, if we have multiple masterservers if one hosted say a non-Nephthys MS, and an MS with the alpha version of Nephthys and have the game query them all with the mod, or somehow get zoras and developers/steams permission to preinstall Nephthys of the correct version so any new player's games that are hosted match this version or have it in a patch. This is a problem we face with UCC, according to zora it was due to incorrect keys for deus-ex that were used.

The community does not need an *owned* MS, but it needs many who are *responsible* for it. This is necessary to avoid nochancesque issues and ensure future reliability of the community-focused MS. Should the community be able to accomplish that, it would mark an unprecedented milestone of maturity.

With sufficient preparation by the community a player who really wants to play online will quickly find means of doing so thanks to today's search engines. Indeed, there will be an amount of loss in the form of those who can't be bothered, but it is better than nothing. At the very least the empty server list on goty or patched versions will raise some questions in some players, potentially leading to a quick google search.

However, seeing as we are unable to even patch the game, I have to reserve some doubt about our odds of making it all happen. Everybody and their grandmother hosting a master server from home laptops will not be the issue. Lack of cooperation will be.

I think it'd mark more than that. Like the continued passion and support for a game far past its prime.

But I agree with your last point. Cooperation isn't necessarily something the Deus Ex community has had a huge grasp on, except when it comes to killing each other.

Before the game potentially dies, I'd like to retract everything super negative I've ever said about DXMP when comparing it to other, more successful games. It has a lot of flaws but the only big problem was definitely its lack of popularity or audience. DXMP was a solid Arena FPS for ATDM, Zero Augs and custom modes. It did asymmetrical multiplayer just as good as gldsrc CS but with a more balanced red/blue classic feel, it did arena shooters almost on a level of Quake 3 and was also as solid for 1v1 (but lacking some good 1v1 maps, or rather the recognition for such a scene within the community) as it was for team games. It definitely did what Gmod did before it and was enjoyable to play custom modes which could be compared with WarCraft 3 customs.

I've never been good at this game, but I experienced as much as I could and I truly respect it and all of its playstyle scenes. Sure it might be niche, but so what, it was was worth the fucking time and very fun tbh.

As much as I've argued with you about dxmp, in retrospective I find those clashes fruitful; since you brought out what dxmp was like for a gamer, and I always argued from my my-game-is-dxmp point of view, and perhaps building my statements on even what could've been instead of what has been and is. I've learned more about dxmp in one year than in all 9 previous years. Its a sad little niche game with incredible promise and extremely fun moments scattered across its multitude of gametypes and countless semimods. Even with its promise unfulfilled around and before its very release, counting all the people I've met and fragged with over a decade.. I can say that it has been a Game. Well played.
