From the Deus Ex CD case:

deus ex machina

Noun
New Latin, translation of Greek - god from a machine
Date of Origin - 1697

1: A god introduced via a crane to decide the final outcome in a play.

2: A person or thing that appears or is introduced suddenly and unexpectedly and provides a solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a reference to the coversation during the intro of Deus Ex where Bob Page and Walton Simons are discussing the Gray Death, and Page says, "We will be GODS!"
"Phreaking doesn't exist. It's an abstract concept that is blindly supported by the collective consciousness of a flakey subculture. You saw nothing."

ooooh, good comeback :P

i was of course being sarcastic :P

Deus ex literally means God out of

because "ex" takes an ablative and Deus is written in the nominative singular, meaning the two words are not related....

For it to be out of God or no God it would have to be Deo ex if my latin serves me correctly...

cmon, let an italian talk and teach all you damn strangers  (jk)
language: deus ex machina=god from machine (as it has been said)
culture: in the ancient greek and (sometimes) latin tragedies, the events and situations were often so complex and apparently unsolvable that they could be solved only by a god, who entered the scene thanks to a set of cables and wheels which was called "machina": this is the origin of "deus ex machina"

hope to have been helpful to your knowledge :lol::mrgreen:
May the Force be with you...
