News: Vision enhancements

The developers of Deus Ex have left out such an outstanding aspect of cyberpunk — vision functions. Remember Alien vs Predator? Every character there had several vision filters for different purposes and that was helpful, since the game was very dark. And of course you've become envious to Gunther after he spoke in paris about his new enhanced vision with infrared and x-ray spectrums!
Yesterday Ded implemented a similar innovation in 2027. Vision augmentation now has three available modes (depending on upgrade level):
  • Light enhancement (341 KB). The screenshot has some problems with flat noise probably due to new OpenGL library; actually ingame it's bright and thick. This mode increases lighting contrast thereby improving eyesight in the dark without using light augmentation. By the way, the light augmentation is now upgradable aswell and the upgrade makes the beam imperceptible for enemies.
  • Heat vision (170 KB). People and warm-blooded animals are displayed in bright-orange, while robots (and other machinery), karkians, greasels and fishes are imperceptible for this mode.
  • X-ray (196 KB). Allows seeing through walls (the distance depends on aug level), also robots and turrels.

Although screenshots look obscure, the vision augmentation works pretty effectively — owing to visual highlighting of light sources, which increases overall contrast of the image.
All three modes are artistically animated — unfortunately it isn't possible to reproduce the effect in static images.
The portable bots now also have an ability to use these modes (which one in particular depends on the series of the bot).
At the same time the bug of simultaneous use of vision enhancement augmentation and tech goggles (as well as binocle, spy drone and other stuff) was solved. Tech goggles now use only the first mode, stimulating the player to upgrade the augmentation. Also Ded has prolonged their operating time to a minute as in Deus Ex they were completely useless because of quick energy use up.

To some extent, I did think of something like this. Just it keeps glitching with weird errors after you pop the screen down... =(
