Hollywood movie!

Columbia Pictures have had a look at Eidos's great hit in 2000, 'Deus Ex', and they have said that they will be happy enough and WILL make a movie of the game.

They said that the storyline will revolve alot around like the game, involving a Matrix-Style movie with parts of the game story like... augmentations, The Gray Death Plague, Ambrosia etc.

I have to say that I am a big fan of Deus Ex, and I'm looking very forward to this movie... but... I have a feeling it is going to lack ALOT of stuff from the game, seeing that the game was pretty big with an intense storyline and Columbia Pictures is cramming it all into one movie.

If it was my way, I would say to have the first Deus Ex game AT LEAST split into two movies, and even better... 3.

One movie for New York and stuff, the second movie in Hong Kong, and the final movie in France and the ending of the game.

And I bet that if the first Deus Ex Movie has good sales (very high that it will since the game reached 2nd place for the best game of 2000) Columbia Pictures will be likely to be making a sequel with the upcoming Deus Ex: Invisible War.

So, who is looking forward to this?

I don't think i'll feel the spirit of Deus in it. More then, it will be terrible if the movie will be like Matrix.
BTW have you told about Laura Ziskin?

movie storyline wont be so good, because of all differant things, and it wont be traditional to us DX people, e.g. the command area wont look like it does for us and the weapons will be differant.......

Yeah, and, DX as game give us choose in your player charachteristics, manners, tactics and etc (i've told many times about it because, i think, it's very important and unique in Deus Ex SP comparing with other games).

Although a movie would not truly capture the gmaes escence it would provide entertainment. Games have made bad movies and movies bad games but if they keep to making the movie good it'll be great. The storyline would be a good start as its more thought out than most games but what ending would they use?

WHY DID YOU REVIVE THIS.

LOL read the whole OP, before I noticed the date.

Nothing's changed though has it. James is absolutely right, a movie encompassing the whole of the Conspiracy chapter would suck a lot.

Take Dune as an example of an incredible story which could not fit in one movie.

Since writers make money of royalties with characters etc, I have a horrible feeling that a DX movie would not follow much of the games at all, but need new characters and storyline, possibly using comic or book story with game story too, so I suspect HR or related stuff would be the first movie.

Imo. DX in film would require 2 or 3 parts, split at dramatic parts like JC turning against UNATCO or Paul dying etc..

An interactive movie where you choose the sequence of events would do a DX film some justice.
