this is what everyone says before they try to get into it. if rts was as common place as say, fps, people would be less open to try fps games!!! (i've never had this problem though as I played rts before fps~)

starcraft is fun as hell

Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War - RTS classics, Brood War being the most successful competitive game. (Most popular is Counter Strike)
Good story and both hard as nails, latter game being one of the best expansions in the history of games.

Worth playing multiplayer?, no. It is far too hard, you need about 6 hands. there's no training wheels for new players

Worth buying?, no. Pirate it because you may as well not waste your money on an old game you may or may not like.

Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty - Sequel of SC referred to as SC1.5 - which is not a bad thing because you shouldn't change much about what isn't broken. A lot easier, more accessible without taking a casual approach - a good modern sequel. Sorta okay story, -VERY- fun singleplayer (personally played through 3 times) with a lot of modifications, yes even roleplay.

Multiplayer: On the full versions of the game there is a fleshed out ladder. It has a reasonably great matchmaking system. So if you're bad at the game, you will be matched with bad players of your level, and the more you win, the game tests you by raising the the bar slowly, slowly, slowly with a hidden matchmaking rating.
and as i said above, you don't need to play SC2. You can just play mods etc, if you're familar with the War3 mods you'll see more of the same.

Need to play Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War to understand the plot?, no. But knowing the characters that return is a plus and helps.
Worth buying?, try the starter edition or pirate before it.

The (looked down upon) bio tactic of marauder heavy armies in TVT is so liberating to the shackles of the avoidant hellions and the chess snore fest of tanks! It is only going to get better once HOTS hits and WARHOUNDS BABY

I can imagine it now, tanks and warhounds in the field... Holding hands taking names. Medivaced marines in front of them when the breaking of lines begins... and SCV groupies behind them, their losses only let more warhounds on the field and make more room for ze mule.

AND AS FOR TVP

TONIGHT PROTOSS,
YOU
BATTLE HELLION, WARHOUND
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS TANK, SHREDDER AND GHOST
>zealots
>stalkers
>colossi
>high templar
>fffffffffforcefield
lmao!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering I am no longer going to Madrid I'm now thinking of going to MLG Providence at last minute. I can find people who are heading there from Python chat (whom I've barely ever talked to) to share a hostel/hotel etc. Most likely I will not go, like my ill fated visit to Korea for GSL and LFC because the latter mentioned didn't end up happening there.

If I go, I will make it a mission to find my idol and soulmate; incontrol-kun. Hopefully I can get a picture with the hunky lovable racist too.

EMP radius has been decreased from 2 to 1.5
Interesting PTR, shield upgrades were quite expensive so I can understand that part

although I don't get why the Ground Weapons research cost is decreased??

Protoss ground weapons upgrade affects all ground units.
Terran split up between infantry and mech for all ground units.
Zerg split up between ranged and melee for all ground units.

So upgrading attack is the easiest for protoss, but also the cheapest now??

Level 2 attack
Protoss 150/150

Terran infantry 175/175
Terran mech 175/175

Zerg melee 150/150
Zerg ranged 150/150

Protoss really has the easy way out here, with just one upgrade shared for all units, effectively costing 150/150 for protoss, 300/300 for zerg and 350/350 for terran. And protoss is known for it's quickest possible upgrades due to chrono so I really don't like that part of these patchnotes

David Kim: The reasoning behind the Protoss upgrade buffs is actually quite simple. We've noticed a lot of Protoss players neglecting the potential of unit upgrades in PvT and PvZ. With the advent of such things as Warp Prism harass and Sentry drop harass, we wanted to encourage Protoss players to experiment with non-standard one- and two-base gateway all-ins. We see a lot of untapped potential in things like 6-gate and 8-gate all-ins by Protosses on Battle.net. Therefore we deemed it necessary to further encourage these rarely seen two base all-ins by buffing their units' upgradability even more. Hopefully this will discourage Protoss players from going with standard Warp Prism or Phoenix play that hurts the meta-game, and encourages more warp gate-based all-inning from Protosses.
This is made up!

But why the hell the attack/armor upgrade??
The upgrade change is not big. So now protoss get 50 extra minerals and gas now and again mid-lategame, doesn't change much. It just means a few timing attacks will be very slightly faster.
Oh and shield might be researched ever now.

Blizzard thought protoss felt generally weak as a whole, so heres a small very broad buff to all of protoss.

How long does it take to mine 25 minerals and 25 gas on 2+ bases?

Why not one base?

Do you realise how strong these changes can be? Starcraft has always been all about cutting and trimming down to make your needs come out faster. Please see that the smallest change for an itsy bitsy second opens up more possibilities from timing attacks, production and tech.

In a one base timing attack scenario that uses +1 attack or something, you shouldn't disregard a small change of 25 minerals so easily in the early game, let alone 25 gas. The cut PROVIDED by Blizzard allows you to get an extra probe/building/sentry/zealot/stalker/etc out quicker along with the +1 weapons upgrade of course!

Don't take this as some butthurt towards the Tossers, I've been promoting the mineral/gas to be increased for Stim/+1 bio upgrades for months to stop some stupid timing attacks.

Are you saying Artosis, incontrol and Tyler are wrong and the change is actually significant?

1. Artosis said collapsable rocks are a good idea
2. They all play protoss
3. On a serious note:
They wouldn't know for sure yet, the 3 of them have said time and time again they avoid the PTR most of the time.

Artosis would be the only person to take note of because of his vast knowledge/archiving of most strats he finds interesting. I'm sure if something happens to a protoss metagame, he will be first on the case. But as I said earlier, they don't do PTR much.

4. >>>>>>>>>INCONTROL USING ANYTHING BUT DTS AND PHOTON CANNON RUSHING
5. On another serious note; that doesn't disregard my post at all.
6. JP McBeta hosts that show.
7. ur a tosser
8. Finally on another serious note:
I didn't say they were wrong at all, I'm just saying (and fact: Look at Nestea.) that every single change counts. Be from the player or the changes given to the game, and these interwine.
9: You shouldn't listen to people under suicide watch.
