This image is worth a read if you're confused on what you want in a PC, it gives you a list of tiers, information on each component in general and where to buy.

http://www.logicalincrements.com/

Strictly this is a guide and advice, not a word of definite fact of what's right for you as stated on the image itself.

A word about the 6970:

Performance wise, in benchmarks it does a little bit worse than the 570 (its competitor) while being more expensive. And one would think the new heatsink design would make it cooler and use less power? Not true. Mine runs at 55-65c idle in a very well-cooled case, and the power draw is more than the 570 (at least, with its limiter on).

So your best bet is to get a 570, unless you want to do a multiple-monitor setup on one card. It's cheaper and better. You could also hold out until they release the 6990, which promises to compete with the 580 and supposedly will cool much better.

As for the list itself, I'm troubled by the PSU lists containing a deficiency of lower-end Corsair power supplies. I'm still running on a 650W and there have been zero hiccups, even when my power draw became significantly greater with the installation of the 6970. Otherwise, great list.

6970 is a redundant card

Buy a 6850 and unlock it, et voila you now have a 6970, get an aftermarket HSF and oc that badboy

I already have most of the enthusiast parts hon.

I'm missing Sandy Shits, and P67 Sabertooth. Multibillion dollar companies and their damn recalls.

I'm still debating a good case too.

Ye, nvidia da best.

This thread isn't for you, and the enthusiast option is stupid (read: insane and future)_

PostPosted: Thu Feb 10, 11 10:29 pm
by Aidan
It's not that stupid.

It kinda is.

It definitely is. There's exceptions but very, very few people need that kind of computing power (i.e. not consumers)

Sure you can take parts from good to enthusiast, but going straight for it is for someone with a lot of money, and I MEAN a lot.

not only is it bad but it's been throttled at the front!

it's a bad case my uncle bought years ago

Yeah, that case looks like it's going take off into space lol.

You can find cheap cases for 30 quid or less that have great airflow and maybe a back panel for cable management as well.

Stuck on what motherboard to get. I was gonna go for the Asus M4A89GTD, but a shit load of people are complaining about it. So I'm totally put off. Hmm...

I saw the ASRock 890FX Deluxe5 which will support the new Bulldozer chips, which is good for future proofing I guess.

Fuck! Can anyone suggest me a good motherboard at all? I'm gonna be buying my parts next week so if anyone can help, I'll really appreciate it.
