All of my parts have been ordered, should be getting them all tomorrow. Can't wait! I went for this build in the end...

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
Asus Crosshair Formula IV motherboard
500GB HDD Seagate Barracuda
4GB RAM Corsair XMS3
Gigabyte 6870 Graphics Card
Coolermaster CM690 (with Coolermaster GX PSU 650w)

Was gonna get a 1TB HDD but I'm really skint now so that'll have to wait, besides I doubt I'll have a shit load of games installed all at once.

Just wanted to say thanks to me fellow red James for pointing me in the right direction with the guide and stuff. Ta bud. :)

Nice setup! If I can also make a recommendation. Get a cheap Low Capacity SSD just to use as a boot drive. I guarantee you'll see a noticeable difference in speed.

Going from an HDD boot drive to an SSD boot drive is the best thing I've ever done. HDD boot drives are only a bottleneck to the rest of your components these days.

Yeah, that's right.

Thanks mate, sweeet I'll keep that in mind, shall get one in the future. They're pretty expensive aren't they?

You can get them for around $100 these days.

I have a $120 64Gb Crucial sata 3 SSD.

I only use it as a boot drive, and for programs such as photoshop.

It's lighting fast though, and definitely a great investment. I'm never using HDD's again as a boot drive.

Simon, I reccomend you do it yourself! :)

It really isn't confusing, or hard. Everyone just assumes this.

There are many easy guides of how to put a PC together.

Here is one from Linus...

Just like that? Just buy the pieces separately or in combos and assemble it myself? If it is as simple as that then it's time for action :) Thanks again Aidan :D

It's very much this easy :) A lot of people generally think it's rocket science and waste money on a prebuilt. Building it yourself saves you quite a lot of money.

I'd also like to mention that most parts come with instructions as well..

Which country do you live in? One of us can direct you to a good website to purchase parts off of.

Well if you want a good kick of power but still keeping a budget in mind, I suggest that you get an i5 with a k multiplier. You will not be spending on more money to get the stock i7 as you can over clock it to make use of its maximum potential.

I am not sure about the and processors though as I have read mixed reviews about the ability to unlock their dual processors and how it could sometimes not work for the user.

In fact. Our system is so advanced, that if you have too much reputation, you're not allowed to visit the forum so other users have a chance!

That's because despite it almost being a 3 year old graphics card, it is much more powerful than the current set of console's GPUs. Videogames appear to be optimised these days for PC as most of them are designed to run on consoles so they generally run well.

nah, it's because most of the new graphica cards are a rebrand of old models

all the non-sold AMD GPUs of the 67xx 68xx 69xx series will be for sure rebranded on something like 70xx

this shit is going on for years.

...

uh

well that is true for the lower series cards (5770 example), but it has no relevance on Masta's question. GPUs today are 12x more powerful than what is in the 360 (best console GPU).

I thought he meant that his gpu is old and still works fine whic is nothing strange at all. A 3 years old 5850 gets the same FPS of a new 6950, while a 2 years old 5970 gets even more FPS than a 6970.

4870 was one of the highest end graphics cards of 2009. 5*** only popped up around the release of the third AVP game.

Which case is that? I'm considering buying a new case.
