Rocket is heading in a bad direction, he should not be adding so much and stop development on the alpha for ARMA2 and get it working in closed testing on ARMA3.

But alas, this mod brings in too much money.

Jesus christ the OP must have been rump roasted or something I never have seen somebody worked up over a mod like that

He had a couple points but they were quickly overshadowed by excessive flame

And yeah this mod/"social experiment" got boring after a while. It's a good prototype though (or was) for a MMOFPS.

One thing I don't like is the pride aspect of being on a 4-man Steam team, gunning down survivors with helicopters and advanced weaponry then bragging. I don't understand also where the term Carebear originated or why it's used by neckbeards to justify acting sociopathic in a video game

There are a lot of casual gamers, who run through streets guns-a-blazing, and who don't feel like walking far distances for a better reward. These same people complain ALL THE TIME. They're on the DayZ forums complaining, they're in sidechat complaining. They are too damn stubborn, and have no intention on actually finding good loot, or trying to play the game properly (and when they die, because their companion needed beans; the entire world comes to an end and they quit). THOSE are Carebears

When you HAVE all of the vehicles, and military grade weaponry... You get bored. REAL bored. So many people will go on raids in either Cherno, or Elektro for kicks. I've done this before with my clan, but we usually wait for another clan to show up. 6 on 6 avg. all with military grade. Good fun.

I'm still in love with this mod. It's very fun if you play with a larger groups of people. Again, http://www.heavilyarmedclan.com Visit my site, and the mumble info is there. There are ALWAYS public players on my mumble server. If you ever feel like playing DayZ one day, hop on, and meet up with them. You're guaranteed to have a lot more fun.

This is what makes me want to play it, it's so reminiscent of Eve in that it gives the player(s) so much freedom that it allows for these kinds of stories to exist. Sure, they're a rarity to happen ingame, but it's still pretty damn cool to read about.

That's just it, the chance of that happening is so low. I played it enough and once ran into people I could set something up with (which was a sniper ring hunting bandits across Chern), most of the time people will just shoot you on sight because they've been shot on sight. There's no allowing for "that guy might not shoot me", because they probably will - something I've learnt the hard way. I generally enjoy the game, just not much the community.

I guess playing with friends would be different, but I haven't met up with any yet because after spamming join for 20 minutes on a server and finally getting in it'll probably crash or you'll be so far apart that after the hour it took to walk to each other without being shot you're probably done.

That’s right, this is actually happening - DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.

Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.

I realize people will have many, many questions - but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered. The game will have it’s own site, www.dayzgame.com and the mod will continue at it’s present link.

I've began the disbandment of my clan. We're still going to keep the mumble server as it is cheap as all hell; but the Clan was beginning to feel a lot like Day Care. Now we're just a big group of friends who enjoy playing together.

I think DayZ will be great as a standalone game. The mod itself is still very fun to play if you get a few friends, and hope there isn't a hacker in the server.

While I agree they could have created additional variables into the mod; PVP was a large part of its success, and is very fun.

If there was little to no PvP, the game would not be the same at ALL.

Take it from someone who has experienced both angles of gameplay, while wasting his life playing it for hours everyday using both direct chat and VOIP.

Clans aren't a problem at all (they are survivalist groups). If I were in the Hell's Angels when the Z-Day anarchy apocalypse broke out, of COURSE I'm going to team up, and survive as long as I can.

I think the REAL issue here is VOIP. There is absolutely no way to stop people from using it. Using VOIP deters others from using direct chat, meaning private bandit parties EVERYWHERE. Clan or no clan.

Half the time, my clan will actually use Direct Chat for psychological warfare, or to get others to hop in our VOIP (giving one permission to hop in your VOIP is the DayZ holy grail of friendship).

The second issue here are hackers. What is the point of 'surviving,' if at some random point you will drop dead because of a command injection? This is why there has been a large decrease in players lately. DayZ pushed what battleye was truly capable of; and was exposed as being rubbish as it is easily bypassed.

IMO, there aren't many things to do about this except fear tactics. Fear by $. $20 for a new GUID, and say... $40 for a new DayZ account. Cost should motivate others to play fairly. Sure people don't mind throwing away $20 for a new GUID every week or so; but how about $60 every week?

OKAY, so...

Standalone is supposed to come out this month of December. However, Rocket has announced that they are practically making a new engine out of the base of their Virtual Reality 3 engine. Having said this, it could be a little while longer we will have to wait.

On a side note, I tried WarZ and it SUCKED. Got my money back though.

I read somewhere that it is being ported to ArmA 3's engine, which would make sense.

The War Z's gameplay looked so dreadful, so very very boring.

Looked at WarZ, it looked interesting enough, might get it at some point.

Everyone I know sort of lost interest in Dayz, which is a shame as I did really enjoy it, maybe the standalone will pick up.

Yes, Rocket did confirm that they are porting their current progress over to Virtual Reality Engine 4. This transition will mean rebuilding a lot of code, thus extending the release date to sometime in the new year.

I just want them to take their time and perfect it the best they can.




Kaiden don't do it m8. I thought the same thing, played for a while...

Then I confirmed it was a straight rip off of DayZ with shitty money-grabbing payment options so you can play Left4Dead MMO with a mangled engine.

What got me about DayZ is the realism. The actual fear, and cautious mentality it brought out in me. WarZ does not have this.

WarZ is a quick buck designed by a company going bankrupt soon, it resembles their old game too much. It isnt fun at all.

Do you really expect this to be any different in the final version? It's nothing but a glorified deathmatch that has been over-exposed and already receiving a lot of imitators. Hell, it is objectively nowhere near the best mod for ArmA2 and was only receiving coverage is because of zombies, which are more interesting than a military simulator to the average gamer.

The directions in the mod while it was still for ArmA2 was confusing, many agreed and dropped it very quickly after being fed up with the changes or the stupid people who played after it got too popular, it really was at its best in the first few days.

Yes, there are a lot of copycats out; but I have yet to see any comparable mod to DayZ. So that doesn't really worry me.

Pretty much agree with that Matthew, no real way around any of what you said. What stops you not killing someone infront of you IRL is morality, among other things, you can't impose them in a game without limits, which doesn't seem to be what Day Z is about.

Oh well regardless I'll take a look at the standalone.
