I'm going to order my PC next Tuesday

Is it worth stretching to the GTX 690? I can afford it but every bone in my body is screaming 'overkill'.

Alternatively I could get a 680 and upgrade next year/the year after that

I only really play DotA2 and SFAE, the hardcore GPU is for 2560 res and the occasional single player game. (For example, I feel like getting Alan Wake.)

In my personal opinion I've yet to find any current generation game that is actually demanding enough to justify an upgrade (I still use a GTX285, sure it is DX10 but I've not found a game that requires me to lower the settings yet) It's probs best getting a 680 and investing your saved dosh in a more powerful CPU/RAM/SSD.

Don't really want the SSD tbh, still too overpriced for what, faster boot times? I restart my PC once a week.

I play mainly MP games so if I load first before everyone else I still have to wait for them to load, benefits me none

Yeah, even the 680 is overkill tbh. But I want to just buy a game and turn it up to ridic settings and not have to think about it.

CPU wise I'm going for a i5 Sandy Bridge, I don't really have any use for an i7. Even in PS the difference is negligible

I'll get the 680, if business is nice still by December I'll get a second 680.

It's not just faster boot time. Programs open faster, in-game levels load faster etc...

A certain 128GB SSD was very cheap on eBuyer in the last few weeks, great for OS partitions.
I am dead.

I've been using my SSD about a year now. Not a single issue, and MY GOD I can actually USE my computer. Seriously...

-Computer Boots in 8 seconds
-PSCS5 opens in 4 seconds
-I'm the first one into EVERY BF3 map
-Win7 never locks/hangs (no spool time)

As Jay has mentioned you can buy them quite cheap now. So stop living in the dark ages!

Don't bother building a thousand dollar rig, if you're not going to use an SSD.

Changed my mind, build finalised now

i7 3770k (Because compiling, rendering, all that good stuff)
ASUS P8Z77-V PRO
16GB Kingston DDR3 (Became 8GB... because why 16?)
4GB GTX 680
120GB Intel SSD (Became 60GB, 120GB is too small for any real usage, so I'll just drop Win7 and DOTA on the 60GB)
1TB Samsung HDD
500GB Samsung HDD (Probably going to give this one away to a friend)
One giant ass monitor to hold me down until I get my 3 pretty ones (Became a Dell U2711 27" H-IPS)

And to top it off I bought some ricer razer shit because the only mouse I own is not an intellimouse and I cannot find a black 3.0 for the life of me
