H1Z1 - A new F2P MMO zombie survival game (by Sony)

Postby Alex » Thu Apr 10, 14 10:31 am

I wanted to tell you about an exciting new free-to-play game we’ve had under wraps here at SOE for some time. It’s called H1Z1. It’s a massively multiplayer game in which players fight for survival in a world where death is the only sure thing. The H1Z1 virus devastated mankind and left nothing but death and destruction in its wake and a world nearly empty of human life where the remnants of humanity are in a fight against extinction against those infected with the virus. It’s been 15 years since H1Z1 was first encountered and what’s left of the world before is overrun with the Infected. Humanity has been reduced to hiding in the shadows, searching desperately for food and water and anything that can help to survive even for another day. But the Infected aren’t the only dangers in the world. Everyday life in the Apocalypse means dealing with all kinds of wild animals and the brutality of other survivors, as well as finding your next meal and a safe place to sleep. It also means scavenging or crafting anything that can help you live just one more day. In H1Z1 every minute of every day is borrowed time and fearing for your life… unless you are the Danger (talking to you Walter), but life can and will go on… even in circumstances as dire as this. Humanity has not given in to the Infected. There are still pockets of humanity and the fight goes on!

It's definitely got a large budget and good assets in it but I'm kind of sick of these DayZ clones. Arma 2/3 base game or modes like Wasteland are much more enjoyable. The latter is basically military survival too without the zombies.

I personally don't like how the movement/control in ArmA 2 works, but that might be a setting I missed. Rust interests me a lot, but to be honest I'm too cheap to buy it (except when it's on sale, but seeing as it's not finished yet, that wont happen soon).

So if this is really F2P it's definitely worth trying, wont cost me more than some of my time.

I just wish the damn games had more bloody zombies. For zombie survival horrors they sure are lackluster in the undead department.

The games are fun in decent-sized groups. The issue I had with DayZ was everyone resorts to being bandits, which isn't particularly fun. I'm hoping (if not already) that they add incentives to prevent this.

What's the state of L4D? Do people still play it? Any sequels planned?

L4D3 not officially announced but leaks shown that its one of their main focuses for Source 2.

Thanks. 12k players is not exactly impressive, but not too bad compared to other games I guess. God, I miss L4D days.

Yeah man, the DayZ mod gave me this feeling until weapons were super easy to get a hold of.

I talked to Matt Lightfoot on FB chat about the Banditry topic. I told him it's not going to work because people don't display their true feelings in a video game. There is almost no remorse because it's a fucking game, and everyone knows it; they don't care about killing randoms and stockpiling.

That's pretty much the issue I have with DayZ. For people to work together there has to be a common goal. A threat that is far greater than anything else.

This should have been the zombies, as it stands there is no greater threat so people just kill each other.

If nothing else it's certainly realistic.

I think my American friends want to play ARMA 2 Wasteland tomorrow, so if anyone wants to join our little PMC for a few hours come join us.

Time is still undetermined.
