The warning mod.

Greetings from XPS.

We'd like to add a Warning mod to our forums, and I recall seeing something like what we need on this forum. We're all using PhpBB2 it seems, so I would be grateful if one of you could tell me where you guys got your mod.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!
The warnings mod we use here was made by Russian phpBB community and I slightly modified it — made the warnings more distinct and fixed small bugs connected to the avatars. There are also translation mistakes, although they probably fixed them in the latest releases.
Seeing your forum isn't as modded as ours, why don't you move to phpBB3? It has a warnings feature along with many other.

Eh ... sorry to say I'm a bit of a newb at this.

Could you give me instructions on how to install this mod?

We're using EasyMOD beta 0.3.0

Phpbb 3 Does have a very good security system I think. It allows the admin to be able to do things that couldn't be done in previous versions, but overall it's confusing as hell... Took me a while to learn the format, but I like it.. somewhat.

Read instructions in the .txt, open each of the PHP files, edit them, save them.

I don't recommend EasyMod. Most likely, it won't work.

I've actually never heard anybody say anything good about that Easymod program.. Guess it really sucks.

Well, there is a warning system on phpBB3 and it's a bit complicated, but once you get to understand it it's easy.

And bbcodes are much easier to install, no editing files, only click on the Add BBCode at the Posting tab in the admin panel. The admin panel is much more advanced, but has many more options. Security wise, it's better, and I honestly can't find my forum with any bugs at all.

Also, the skins are much more cleaner than phpBB2.

But that's my opinion

[And it's recommended that you upgrade phpBB2 into phpBB3... By the phpBB Community]

No bugs perhaps, but exploits that would compromise the security of the Forum, etc.

I would recommend PHPBBFM - PHPbb Fully Modded.

it's still based on phpbb 2, but it works brilliantly.

I think I might actually download this to see what it's about :D

Btw if anyone wants to take a leap of faith I personally use SimpleMachines' SMF forum. It's slightly nicer than phpbb in my opinion.

Considerably nicer. I havent seen phpbb3 but i absolutely hate the way phpbb2 works.

And mods are generally auto-installed. You dont even have to upload them if you select them from the live mod list in control panel.

Nah the Admin Menu is clunked and I dislike the layouts offered with SMF.

You can see the admin panel ect at here for phpBB3: http://opensourcecms.com/index.php?opti ... iew&id=143

Admin panel of phpBB3 seems simple and intuitive enough for me.

Layouts for SMF are indeed horrible in terms of usability.

how are they horrible? i dont know, perhaps ive just gotten used to it, but it looks-works way better than the phpbb2 and IPB113 imho. Looks is why i went for it in the first place. Admin panel is at least more comfortable than phpbb while i did like ipb113 more in that respect.

Meh, I just don't like all the random added things, they just look cluttered, perhaps it's just the skins I've seen:

News boxes and all that just annoy me lol, when a simple "News/
announcements topic does fine.

I think that's the reason I chose phpBB out of all the other forums out there. I only post on phpBB forums actually except for the RTK forum.

It's recommended (by myself, lol) that you use phpBB3 and get used to it. Because, sooner or later, phpBB2 is just going to become obsolete, much like phpBB1 did. What? Do you think they just started with phpBB2?

http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=phpbb - Do note, IT IS NOT recommended you use any of these versions. Even though the motto is "Because older is not always better" this is generally NOT true in the examples of bulletin board software. Newer versions are made to FIX bugs, reverting back is only advised if you experience problems with the latest version and can get no support for it.

phpBB3 will become the norm eventually. It's also much better in terms of security and management, compared to phpBB2 (plus, it has inbult sub-forum features, finally lol) and it's more IPB/vBulletin-user friendly (what I mean is, it's similar to IPB or vB).

@Kaiden: SMF sucks shit lol. The only decent thing it has going for it, is it's extreme user-friendliness lol. That's about it.

No I knew it started from phpBB1 if you are pointing that question at me ;)

Any honestly nobody use it, well unless you would like a few SQL Injections, no problems here though.

Actually I am going to do a little test and see how easy phpBB1 really is to 'hack' into.

~Psychotic~ wrote:Newer versions are made to FIX bugs

It has been significantly recoded and it'll have its own new bugs. But you're right, it's better.

phpBB3 is great, and I will most likely move even my Russian Deus Ex forum (which is on Invision life-time license) to it.

If the interface designer uses Verdana 10, the interface is going to suck. It's a rule of thumb. In the SMF layout Kaiden posted, just look at how many useless elements there are.

Verdana sucks. Tahoma > Verdana.

Indeed, I was gonna highlight all the un-needed parts, but I didn't feel it neccessary in the end, the keystats and things speak (or show) for themselves- clunky!

I've noticed that.. I'm still using the old way of warning ppl because I can't get that mod to work at all for me.
