All Metal (anything from 'tallica to maiden to pantera to chimaira to nightwish to behemoth (thx ken) to august burns red to suicide silence to miss may i)
Southern Rock (anything from Down to Black Label Society)
Cheesy Rock (anything from Aerosmith to AC/DC)
Hip-Hop (a small select few, i wont go into detail ^^)
Grime (urban music which evolved from Garage, and was born in London, but i was never really into the MC side of it, just nice unique instrumentals)

I listen mainly specific bands that have gotten to me, generally metal (certain kinds of black and few death or doom bands) or some kind of doomish/dark rock genres (depressive rock, stoner rock).
The second family of sounds and beats I greatly enjoy is encompassed by the vast yet almost exclusively non-mainstream world of industrial.
I like a lot of different performers/bands from just about all genres, could be as insignificant as a 5 second spot in some emo rock song that id notice and appreciate, even if my opinion on that particular subculture or their music might indicate otherwise.

Last FM total top does give a good idea what bands have meant something to me, though. Been listening some Kyuss this week just because of Derek's post in WAYLN thread: I recognized the name Kyuss but wasnt sure if I had any music by them. Searched for Gardenia on youtube. Fantastic stuff.

"ikd-sj" might be something interesting for those who look for different music without having any widespread limitations as far as music taste goes. *looks at james*

I have no idea why but for some reason this is the other band that pops to mind when I think of Kyuss. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult

lol

Dubstep is the worst and oversaturate form of dance. Seriously it's only been mega popular the last year now everyone sane is sick of it because NO MARKS keep making songs about it in fruit loops. It's drum n bass without the drum/without the drum being powerful at all and helping it's massive pulse. It's drone music for those getting toasted and wankered on pill based drugs and through personal experience the music is just shit on it anyway.

I mean GOD DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN this song was annoying for the small segment

it's fucking hilarious that a VIDEO GAME produced the best dub step too

If you disagree that this is not only the best dubstep and not the only good dubstep you're wrong.

Seriously I'd rather listen to Lil Wayne instead of more dub step

Not the biggest fan of dubstep either. I like the odd track, mainly the much faster funkier stuff. The slow, heavy tunes get old fast unless you're up to your eyeballs on ketamine.

Listening to Devin Townsend constantly now.

I know it's essentially the same five riffs over and over again, but they're damn nice ones!

On the dubstep note:

Newfag dubstep sucks (mainly almost everything that comes after Datsik) I give you that.

But most of the first dubstep tracks are fucking sick (like 2005-2007)

Those artists (like early skream, digital mystikz, d1, bass clef, early n-type, loefah, early caspa, l-wizz, mrk1, scuba, shackleton, etc) did some pretty awesome things to dub, and explored the bass aspect of dub some more.

What I mean is, dub has a pretty standard bass (like the key feature in the music), but (original) dubstep tried to give that bass a bit more depth.

Examples:
Skream - Glamma
Digital Mystikz - I Wait
D1 - Wear The Crown
Bass Clef - Clapton Deep (don't youtube this shit, I don't know why but it's not the right version of the song, just download the entire album: 'a smile is a curve that straightens most things' (best album name ever, no?), you wont be disappointed)
N-Type - Envy
Loefah - Horror Show
Caspa - Rubber Chicken (first true wobble ever in the dubstep scene, and still one of the most epic ones)
L-Wizz - Girl Of Codeine City
MRK1- Slope
Scuba - Subaquecous
Shackleton - From Deep
... (if you want some more, just pm me)

I bolded the ones that are really listenworthy imo, and I just listened to scuba for the first time in a long time and forgot how fucking epic he is. Talk about spheric music.

This is the kind of dubstep I fell in love with early 2006, and the reason why I still keep listening today, to discover those gems between most of this newfagrubbish.

Also bear in mind that most of these tracks are meant to be played in mixes, so you'll rarely (if ever) hear the full version of the songs. That's what makes dubstep parties one of the most versatile musicparties I've ever went to.

But then again, ur american (amirite?), and 99.9% of american dubstep sucks.

Edit/ omg I just listened to that 'epic dubstep' song you posted, and you made me lol rly hard.

Makes me think of something I read somewhere. At a given point in the history of dubstep (enter Datsik, faggot canadian) there was a schism (epic song by tool): most of the artist jumped on the bandwagon of 'angry dubstep' (the one you like so much) cause, well lets face it, a lot of ppl are angry atm... But some kept true to the original mindset of dubstep, explore the bass in all its aspects.

The fact you classify 'angry dubstep' as the only good dubstep kinda says enough about ur personality (but then again, saying everyone who disagrees with u is wrong, kinda does as well...)

Edit²/inb4wtfisdatshit: de gustibus et coloribus non disputandum est.
