Monitor darker most of the time

Postby Tonnochi » Sat Sep 20, 08 7:22 pm

Most of the time I turn on my monitor, it is dark and the color isn't very good. But sometimes (like now) the monitor will turn on with excellent picture, and visibly brighter. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this, but on a "bright day" the picture is miles better than when its dark. How can I fix this?

omfg... I have the very same problem and when the screen goes dark like that, the blue menu that should appear with green letters and signs, where I can set brightness and stuff like that becomes black and I can't do anything to fix it. I've tried restarting PC and troubleshooting, nothing helped. Right now it's good.

Try cleaning the vents and ports etc.

There is a component in the lcd monitor that fails.. its a common problem. Most likely a capacitor or resistor and in some cases its the backlight that may have blown.

They can be fixed but most of the time ppl just toss them out not realizing this or having some technitian quote so much its cheaper to buy a new one.

Reason its so expensive to repair.

One hours work at the most, $55 to look at it and then the hourly rate the tech charges which could be $65 or more an hour. Depending on the part, its probably only worth a few dollars at most if not less than a dollar.

Those prices above are what Leading Edge Computers charge here where I live.
