MultiDX Problem:

Postby {HK} » Thu Mar 25, 10 1:16 am

Hi Alpha,

I'm trying to host Alex's MultiDX. I followed the instructions exactly for the deusex.ini and installed all 4 files into the /system folder. However, nothing happens. Does anyone know how to get it to work?

Much appreciated,

How do you launch the server?

I start dx normally and click multiplayer than click host game and then repeatedly press gametype in the desperate hope that multidx will show up...

it does not.

I'm not sure if it should. Try launching using a batch file:
Code: Select all
deusex.exe DXMP_Smuggler?Game=MultiDX.Manhunt

Do it as a batch file which you place in your DeusEx\System directory.

Ok. I made what I think is a .bat file. i just saved the code into the system directory. The same thing happened as well.

Did it even execute? (Did you see the black window same as the command-line prompt?)

Could you please open server.log and find an error?

Hey! I think I found something.

This command line works:

C:\deusex\system deusex.exe DXMP_Sile?Game=MultiDX.Manhunt?-server?log=server.log

Do you know how to change my deusex.ini so that it will run this server command instead of the default one?

Much appreciated,

I don't understand your question.

<s>It means that you created the .bat file outside DeusEx/System then.</s> < that's me, I forgot -server part

maybe Silo?

I mean is there a way to change the default start up script so that when I click deusex.exe it will have the multidx gametypes options and not the dxmtl ones?

No. You would never do that anyway. If you can't host it with a batch file then something is wrong, and you won't fix it by trying to host it in-game...

maybe there is, but I don't know how to do that

don't want to sound snobbish, but I always used batch files to launch the servers. they're faster and more flexible (i.e. you can have several deusex.ini's with totally different server configurations and launch them using several bat files)

Oh. I remember when I originally hosted MultiDX, you could actually select the gametype in the menu host screen.

Hey thanks though. Once again, Dae saves me hours of frustration.

Also, how can you use several different deusex.ini's? Please explain.

I think you didn't add MultiDx's [Engine.Engine]DefaultGame= to your DeusEx.ini :P . However bats are a great solution if you don't want to change your DeusEx default game for some reason.

as far as I can remember you need the -ini parameter, e.g.

Code: Select all
deusex.exe DXMP_Silo?Game=MultiDX.Manhunt?-server?log=server.log?ini=MyNewDeusEx.ini

(make a new file like MyNewDeusEx.bat and paste that into it, also make MyNewDeusEx.ini as a copy of DeusEx.ini)

If you want to host multiple servers at the same time, make sure to change Port= variable in your MyNewDeusEx.ini (by default it goes on 7790, you may choose 7780).

If you want to change gameplay parameters, adjust the following part:
Code: Select all
[DeusEx.DeusExMPGame]
SkillsTotal=2000
SkillsAvail=0
SkillsPerKill=0
InitialAugs=0
AugsPerKill=0
ScoreToWin=25
VictoryCondition=Time
MPSkillStartLevel=3
CurrentMap=DXMP_Cmd
fFriendlyFireMult=0.000000

I believe it's all self-explanatory.

If you do not want to host another MultiDX server with your new MyNewDeusEx.ini, make sure to revert changes the installation procedure asked you to do. Make sure you get rid of references in ServerPackages= and ServerActors= of mods you don't need on the new server.
