Hey guise.. :$

I wanted to record an HD video of DX gameplay, how could I change my DX resolution to 1440x1080 or above?

I am newb at this so..... My VGA is DX9, I can't run DX10 render atm.. Does that change anything? The max resolution I have available is 1440x900.. and I need the height to be 1080 to youtube to detect the video is HD sooo.. Any suggestions? ALSO I DONOT want to stretch the video. ALSO ALSO how do we know if DX is 16:3? or 4:3 OR ANYTHING? (i don't even know what that is, but some tutorial said that your recording should be 16:3 something like pixel aspect ratio? I cant remember)

4:3, 16:9, 16:10 are the three most common aspect ratios, they have no major impact it's just the scaling of your monitor. As for changing the resolution, it needs to be done manually...

If you look up, there's a stickied thread in this section detailing how to set a custom resolution;

There's the command

Code: Select all
setres 1440x1080

which, I believe, works even if the desired option is not available in settings.

Hey guys thanks for the replies!

I tried the ini part.. I don't think it worked.. I also tried that command you mentioned, when I type it and record a video through fraps the result is 1280x1024.. Which I duno why..

ALSO Does my monitor also matters? I think the max desktop resolution is 1440x900 that is why its not working?

No sweat guys, if all doesnt work I can still use 720p hd settings :oops:

EDIT:

I did the thing on the ini for the windowed mode too, IT WORKED after pressing ALT+ENTER... only down side is that in window mode the brightness is very low.. halp here :oops: :oops:

bump;
I'm trying to do this again, but my resolution won't get past above 900 on the Y part.. It reaches 1440x900, I need 1440x1080.

No matter what I do, it doesn't work. D:

I only have OpenGL at the moment, and don't have anything else, no DX9 or 10.. so.. any opinions? :oops:

That's odd. I'm fairly sure my dx is configured with OpenGL @ 1920x1080.

You can make the resolution for Deus Ex larger but it doesn't increase the resolution of HUD elements, making them look extremely large and very pixelated, this is because the HUD also scales alongside the resolution. There's also no widescreen support by default, for fairly obvious reasons (it wasn't a big thing back then).

The following exe by Kentie allows you to increase the resolution whilst stopping the HUD from scaling, making the game look absolutely superb on widescreen resolutions and just larger resolutions in general.

thanks for that!

also, a way without using the .exe is to go half-screen and do the setres command. If you find that you are unable to see the full display, just increase your desktop resolution.
