I'm talking about DX1
HannsG HW191AP 19 inch LCD Display 1000:1 300cd/m2 1440 x 900 5ms VGA - this is what I have.
The resolution I'm using for Windows explorer is 1440x900 but that resolution looks bad in DX.
I'm attaching a screenshot from ingame, you can see the missing HUD and the additional amount of space on the opposit side.
I did not make any typing errors, I added the data you submited. The problem might be that you have 21" and me 19" so the two sizes don't look alike in game.
Thanks for fast response!

Hey, ~SaSQuAtCH~ !

Looking at the screen shot I'm surprised that the HUD isn't scaled up like it is when I'm playing the game. If you use my resolution data for your monitor then it's likely that the game will produce visual garbage. The highest resolution you should use is the resolution of your monitor, i.e. 1440x900.

Another possibility is that you have installed some patches that lead to the problem?

The look of the game is independent from the screen size. The important factor is the resolution.

~SaSQuAtCH~
So basically, your problem is that you adjusted your screen to 1680x1050 because HUD looks blurry on your native 1440x900, and now half of HUD is cut like on the screenshot?

The HUD is wrong on 1680*1050 and DX itself looks too narrow vertically on my native 1440*900. The graphics are all right on both resolutions.
I'm using DirectX3D rendering and I installed DXMTL.
Should I get and install a driver for the monitor itself? Might that be the problem? Right now it's set on Plug-and-Play.

I don't think 1680x1050 in Deus Ex will ever work for you if you run 1440x900, whatever renderer or driver you have.

Could you please provide a screenshot of 1440x900 in Deus Ex? (to switch back to it, just type setres 1440x900)

I think it's fixed, I installed the CD I got with the monitor. DX is very unusual on widescreen though. Thanks for helping anyway guys :)

Too narrow? Does that mean it feels like the vertical field of view is too narrow? You can easily change the field of view of the game to any value that you like best.

If you're used to playing games the old 4:3 way wide screen is always a bit weird in the beginning. Not all games react the same way. Some keep the horizontal FOV and clip the upper and lower part of the screen to fit the wide screen resolutions. This narrows the vertical FOV pretty much. Other games keep the vertical FOV and just widen the FOV horizontally. You have to play around with the FOV values a little bit.

Okay so this is a really interesting and stupid quarrel. Recently re-installed lego rock raiders, which notoriously runs like a dog, even more so on modern machines. The fix for it was adjusting some key properties to run it in 16 bit and fullscreen setup, and even played with my PC's system reso on top of that for shits and grins.

What does this have to do with Deus Ex and widescreen monitors?

After getting back in Deus Ex a couple of days later (thanks to Hatchet I'm never that far away), and suddenly the game is only rendering to the rim at 1366x768, AKA the resolution cap the older renderers have (that I keep using for the sake of older device testing) and any attempts to modify these properties reset when going back to display menu, whereas they previously went to 1920x1080 even on the 1366x768 setting, and didn't look like ass when doing so. Any idea why Deus Ex has registered a change and manged my screen's reach?
