Nephthys mod

[Zora]

Nephthys — is a security modification to Deus Ex, which makes your game invulnerable to most of types of attacks and also adds many features (for both players and servers). It's strongly recommended that you install it. Installation is fully automated and requires only a couple of seconds.
In this topic you can download the latest Nephthys version. Make sure to check it from time to time to see if there are any updates.

Here's the new Nephthys V1.4 alpha version which may handle the current attacks way better than the old one.

Key changes since V1.3

• RIJ attack detection
• Challenge/response connection checking
• Quiet bans (no message, no log)
• Self-deleting bans (after a configurable time)
• Subnet attack detection and banning
• Max. number of players per IP configurable
• List overlapping ban entries
• New options in connection status list
• HoldConnSeconds now is calculated automatically on map start
• Bug fixed at deletion of multiple ban entries at once
• 7-Zip doesn't need to be installed with Windows Administrator privileges to be recognized
• Smaller Nephthys.ini file

Very important
You must use NptServerQuery to get the full attack protection. There must not be a log line complaining about missing NptServerQuery in the server log console window after you started a server. Usually the installer will take care about it though (don't bypass that!).

Very important after upgrade from any older version:
Change these settings:
Advanced Options -> Nephthys -> Attacks -> DRJA -> ConnCountForDRJA = 50
Advanced Options -> Nephthys -> Attacks -> DRJA -> TimeDeltaForDRJA = 1

No offence to you, but there is a giant .html help file in Help/ folder of your Deus Ex

Anyway of getting a manual installation method?

Make a new folder on your computer, make folders "System" and "Help" inside it, then place all ini's from your servers FTP, then copy DeusEx.exe, IPDrv.dll, IPDrv.int from Deus Ex installed on your computer, and point Nephthys to that folder. It will think that its Deus Ex because it has DeusEx.exe in it, and will install Nephthys there. Then delete DeusEx.exe and upload System/ folder to the servers FTP.

Indeed he's right but I'll finish your question.

Ok, put the attached file in your system folder(Extract the .ddl file from the Zip folder). Make a BackUp first incase it goes wrong! And see if thats works.

Is it possible for the next version to be done manually as well as automatically? Like just have all needed files into system, then changes to ini?

Two suggestions:

Seeing as the mod is being abused, with ip ranges being banned eventually, could the next one have a 24 hour, or weekly clean on the ban table for Nepyths.

Of course you can do it manually, but this can take a lot of time when there is over 100 entries, in one day.

Also, maybe make the banning system not as harsh? A lot of people who are innocent to the whole ordeal, again because of abuse to Nephthys.
I have heard if you get banned from the server( again, ip ranges are getting banned all the time) you can not only not get into the server but also are banned from seeing it. :/

When I started my test 0aug server, it right banned dae after joining for a RUF attack.
After adjusting the settings, he could join.
Sometimes it helps to read the documentation and adjust the settings (not always, though)

I think it should be false by default, since players got almost no choice in appearance and all the servers use standard meshes, skins, faces. You can't pick face/skin/model like in UT, there are only 4 types for DM and 1 type per each team in TDM.

And I haven't managed to make a new server rule apparently. Maybe DXMTL doesn't display it

Well, Lifted connected to the server 3 times in 25 seconds, which made Nephthys label it as an attack. Just don't reconnect too much to a server in a small timeframe and you shouldn't experience any problems.

This setting is changed during Nephthys installion. So if you installed Nephthys correctly you don't have to do anything here.

If you think you messed up with the installation, please read the manual installation instructions (included in the installed Nephthys documentation, usually C:\DeusEx\Help\Nephthys Documentation.html). However, never add Nephthys as ServerPackage.

RIJ attack detection counts the number of Repetitive Incomplete Join attempts per time. If it exceeds the configured values (again, please see Nephthys documentation for details, search for "RIJ") the connection gets blocked or banned or whatever Nephthys is configured to do.

If you have Nephthys installed, you can find a documentation in .html in the /Help folder under DeusEx/. It was included in all the versions.

I know I'm just being pedantic by keeping on about this, as it has no real improvements over 1.4A100 which you name in 1st post... but... It's always good to have the most up-to-date software

Incidentally, if anyone at [A] would like to help me persuade as many players as possible to install the Nephthys client, I'd appreciate it. More servers with web support, I wanna see!

V1.4a100 was the first alpha version of Nephthys for Deus Ex (the "a" in the version number stands for "alpha").

However, V1.4a130 was out long enough without problems now, so feel free to test it and to give any feedback.

Especially if you want to use the new 7-Zip beta version you should also upgrade to Nephthys V1.4a130.
