Deus Ex Mappers Society (DXMS)

Postby Spiderbot01 » Wed Jul 26, 06 6:50 pm

A Note from DXMS:

Hey everyone, I’m sure you all know about DXMS and some of you might even play in our server from time to time. It’s been pretty quiet lately so we thought we might try and get things going again.

We’ve got loads of things going on at the moment, Map Packs 1-4 are out and waiting to be played and Map Pack 5 is soon on it’s way.
We’ve also got a SP project in motion, we’ll tell you more about that at a later date. We’ve also got a new ‘Shot of the week’ competition which you can read about in the Announcements on the forums.

Few of these maps are actually very good!! And few Ive seen I dont think are playable in DXMp. What ever the case, imo checking out the maps is a must.

I have Deus Ex Slimline on this computer, so I lack most of the music files to be able to view any of these maps in UnrealEd.

If I recall correctly you can't view them in UEd at all. Not sure if it was all the maps or just the one Magus gave me.

Yes, we do put Map Protection on our works. Lord only knows why, personally I'm all for people looking at our stuff and seeing how we put it all together.

DXMS is getting stronger and stronger, we have a really good community, which is a safe, open and positive environment for mappers of varying levels to come together and work together. Although I have made a few maps now for DXMS, really these maps are a product of the entire team.

This is what is going to make DXMS maps the best in the long run, because a professional process goes on, an entire team discuss the planning, execution and feedback of each map.

I'm really enjoying my time with DXMS and I recommend to any disgruntled player to keep an eye on the releases always, they just keep getting better and better... and for mappers, DXMS has established itself as the premier mapping community in DX. Only a fool would go it alone.

(I think map protection for DXMS is a necessary evil. I've seen already my DXMP maps have been edited and re-hosted without me even knowing. A liberty it is, I would say, not to at least invite me to the maptest...or show me an example of where and how my work has been used.)

I like Iceworld, but feel it would be better left out for a while as it is a map that everyone knows and so always votes for, but this stops the lesser known maps from being tried out or played at all.

I'd rather have a go at a wide range of DXMS maps than be confined to just one.

iceworld pwns. I think Iceworld is a map like smuggler. You use the same fighting technices and everything. It is about time someone has made a map that is ver simmilar to smuggler, without someone just updating it. Who mad it?

I have a copy of all maps without protection for backup purposes, but some members have aired their concerns on releasing their work unprotected - if anyone wants to take a look at any of them, they need only contact me or the author.

With all due respect to Iceworld, it isn't like Smuggler..

In Smuggler you have more places to go, whereas with Iceworld, it's confined

I would agree with the part of Iceworld becoming like smuggler, it was like on the gm server, ferd's, with mapvote, everyone constantly voted for smuggler ( thus a lot of the time, sadly, the server remained empty.)

Well, Iceworld is much more of a massacre than Smuggler, in Smuggler you can still avoid the masses by taking the sideways, while in Iceworld it's pretty much unavoidable.

As i posted on some other forum: my favorite is Dust (except the gas jumping part), next comes Amtrak (or what it was called)(might be that some spawns need work but it seems very realistic given the options) and then Iceworld (this is noob-slaughter map where continuous raping and moans are only the sweet toping).

So ive included few possible downsides, also Dust is far more interesting than Iceworld, but they all are highly playable. Id go as far as saying that Dust is so good it could replace the highly camped A51.

next comes Amtrak

thx... I have 3 more coming... a beach, a street and a church... maybe Amtrak with the banners could go up on the server?

DXMS had not requested I change the spwns, but I could...

I'm sure that a revamped Dust is in the pipeline from one of us.

However, I do think that we'll be keeping the old Dust on there, as it is the only map Jonesy made for us that got to be publicly played.
