Bronies

Postby clyzm » Mon May 07, 12 5:51 pm

Yesterday at the local mall I work part-time at, I've had the displeasure of dealing with some overweight teen decked out in MyLittlePony gear, from his shoes to his sweater. He came along with 2 other friends and they all had MLP shirts on.

So I casually went "you like MLP, huh" as I was processing his order and he went off on a rant about how nobody appreciates the pony culture and sensitivity and all that garbage. I didn't listen to half of his drivel but it seemed like they do it for the same reason that some men wear obviously girly shirts, to appear masculine?

Though it seems to me that they show more of their insecurity than anything else, I mean seriously why would you watch a little girls' show to prove to the world how masculine you are?

I don't understand it one bit. Where did this "cultural" phenomenon come from? Why do people love that show, people that the show is obviously not intended for?

It's a meme/furry thing that has gone wayy too far.

Someone I know on facebook has his whole profile ponied out just 'for the sake of the internet.'

Allan might be able to better explain what it's all about.

Apparently it started out as an ironic joke or whatever, but then a load of autists came along and start taking it super seriously, as bad as furries.

I honestly don't really care if people want to watch My Little Pony or whatever, but I don't want to hear about it. I don't care if you like that shit but I also don't give a shit about your life story and why you watch it.

As far as I'm concerned you're just another person who is completely insecure about their masculinity and you have to find ways to blame others for your own problems. It's counter-intuitive: How does watching a program originally designed for female children make you appear more masculine?

Newsflash: It does not.

I find that most "bronies" love playing the victim. I don't truly mind if you watch My Little Pony, just don't try and give me that bullshit about it having a "good storyline" and it being "really deep" and "involving". It's not. It never was and it never will be. These people tend to completely overthink the storyline. It was a cartoon made for kids, not an animators way of releasing an epic story in secret.

It's another glorification of a fetish being their culture.

The show is boring and uninspired compared to lead's works on IFHFIF and PPG.

I was browsing /v/ and a video popped up of some kid doing a 10 minute presentation on the show.

Not one to stay uninformed, I opened youtube and starting the first episode to see this 'amazing writing and animation'

It is about as well animated as Spongebob and the writing is not nearly as funny. I closed the window after 5 minutes and went back to what I was doing

Just because a cartoon has references for the parents that watch it with their kids does not mean it is supposed to be primarily viewed by adults

No, I didn't dislike it because I am sexually insecure. I wear pink and purple on a regular basis, and make 'gay' jokes all the time. Call the cops I don't give a fuck

Goddamn manchildren

I'd rather watch Spongebob than My Little Pony but the thing is, I don't delude myself by saying I watch Spongebob because it makes me feel more "manly" or because the writing is "awesome". I watch it because I think it's entertaining, that's it. I don't watch My Little Pony because I don't find it entertaining in the least.

Frankly, this new, weird shit makes me feel really old. It's not the speed at which it's changing that concerns me but how it's changing. I realise people grow up differently but back when I was growing up, no sane man ever dreamed of ever watching My Little Pony. We had no pathetic terms like "brony" for it because people just didn't do it.

Why the hell do you feel the need to now? There were and always have been ways to express ones masculinity. You don't have beat someone of the opposite sex to achieve this (and everyone is going to look down on you if you do) but resorting to freakin' -ponies-? That's just bloody counter-intuitive to the extreme, as far as I'm concerned.

I think a lot of the people in this thread don't realise it is a fetish and they create lewd content for these cartoon ponies.

Considering the argument we had years ago over why I defended furries, this surprises me greatly.

I'll always defend those furries and even bronies, not because I like what they do, but because I believe they deserve the very same freedom I want. I defend them because that's how I'd want to be treated in the same position.

That still won't help me understand them, though, and it won't stop me from thinking something is severely wrong with their heads.

Then you have no taste, because Fosters is garbage.

If that was the canon ending, I would've cried.

If you drink Fosters lager you're sub human scum with no taste. But seeing as you both actively used a PS3 at one point it is a given HEHEHEHEH no seriously Fosters lager is awful and not even up for subjective argument.

Almost all beer is shit over here.

I only drink imports (unless I'm after the intent of ignoring taste, and going full retard). I prefer Grolsch, Innis & Gun, and Alexander Keith's (Only good premium domestic here).
