Unveiling Alpha’s secrets — confessions, only truth

Postby Dae » Mon Jan 05, 09 7:40 pm

Alpha bowed out from the community in May 2008, but still there are many speculations about our past on several forums in the internet. I'd like to lay down my cards on the table and unveil every secret about Deus Ex community, our clan, activities, plans, mistakes etc.

I promise to tell the truth and not to go away from the answer unless the question is inappropriate.

I will be posting those secrets in a random order in several parts, but you're free to ask your question (even if you were our enemy etc).

Some answers may be interesting, some may be not.

Did you develop hacks?

And not just to text CRD, I mean just for shits and giggles going around harassing people with hacks.

Did you give bugs, hacks, exploits etc. to new members when they joined the clan.

Part 1
  1. Once I hacked MiniMTL forum (the one on DeusExGaming) and downloaded all the attachments from it. I told Nobody about the vulnerability, though.
  2. I also hacked DestroyerZero's forum, downloaded the backup of it, browsed private discussions and as well told DestroyerZero about the vulnerability.
  3. I hacked [TT] forum. I don't remember what I did to it, but I haven't told anyone about this before now.
  4. I didn't hack any more forums (I think).
  5. In 2003 not many people knew about LAM bug (the one which allows you to dupe LAMs near walls). I didn't abuse it to kill people, but I couldn't resist spreading it among my friends (one of them was [MTX or [TGU] Oracle).
  6. In 2004 I decided to merge |ALPHA| with German clan [A]ssassins. The only reason behind the merger was to take over [A]ssassins and their sexy one letter tag. This was indeed a shady dealing :) After the merger, we gained weight in the community — but all original [A]ssassins left the new clan. This event started a new trend/fashion of one letter tags (e.g. [F], [V], [N], [R] and many more).
  7. Klop/Gishank was a member of Alpha for a few hours (he had access to private forums etc).

Yes, we did.
Baleout wrote:Did you give bugs, hacks, exploits etc. to new members when they joined the clan.

No, we didn't. Nearly noone of the clan had access to our hacks.

Yes, a lot of.

Protocol wrote:I mean just for shits and giggles going around harassing people with hacks

All in all it happened ~3 times, we wanted to test the hacks in the "live environent" and of course, that led to annoyance of players who felt victims during that. Once, when Alex was caught on a demorec, I told off him for that.

But in all honesty, we never wanted to harass people or get any better scores, we didn't use hacks just for that. That wasn't interesting. It was interesting to hack into the game — yeah, that's for sure.

I'll cover some questions about CRD/hacks in the next parts.

I respect your honesty Dae, I figured you would say that. Lord knows I am guilty of using a colourbot a couple of times for the hell of it.

Lmao, what compelled you to make Klop a member for a few hours?

I met Jay in 2004, the whole meeting was like 10 minutes. I better not remember that though (), because I should've organized it properly... the host (good friends of my parents in Mancity) were scared when I notified them that I wanted to meet an online friend, and I was pretty much limited.

~Psychotic~ wrote:what compelled you to make Klop a member for a few hours?

Max started a poll if we should let Klop in, and eventually "yes" prevailed. I put a veto on that, but some mods let him in anyway. I think Kloppeh even posted a message like "what the hell" in our private forum. It was worth it

Who was the _best_ player ever to enter the clan, in terms of skill?

Also, who was the member who most joined/left many times?

Did Alpha in ANY way, use an exploit, or bug, to lower the performance of a player, in a public server? (NON ALPHA?)
I appreciate the honesty btw :P

it's hard to judge because 0aug and ATDM require different skills

I'd say MastaKilla... but Splitter, Mahou were also very good in both game types

I can answer that

Klop and Danny have always had low performance, therefore any claims by them can be disregarded

yes, as I said above (see my answer to Protocol's question)

James wrote:Were your carers scared of me being from Liverpool?

nope, they were scared by the fact that we know each other from the internet. They thought the internet by 2/3 consists of paedophiles and other perverts

I joined the community in 1998, while we were still waiting for Deus Ex to come out. I know EVERYTHING.

It would be interesting to know who has actually met each other in real life after meeting on Deus Ex

I've always considered it, but the only people I know from the south west are Mahou and Nash (old ][M][ and [V] member), I never managed to get to know Mahou very well and me and Nash always ended up missing each other by annoying coincidence (he would be in Bristol when I wasn't etc...)

Technically weren't James and Chococat members of [A] around the time they met up?

Or am I incorrect?
