Caran D'Achehome / Projects / Caran D'AcheHistoryCaran D'Ache (pronounced as "karandash") was a surname pseudonym of Alex (Mr CaranD'Ache), Daedalus (Mrs CaranD'Ache) and Nobody (Sir Caran D'Ache) during a short period in 2006. They used it in Deus Ex when testing new hacking techniques and uncovering bugs. The name Caran D'Ache is pronounced the same to Russian word "pencil" and it was randomly copied by Daedalus from a pseudonym of a known journalist (which, in his turn, supposedly copied it from French writer Emmanuel Poiré). When the secret about people hiding under these nicknames was uncovered, it caused many disputes in the community—the majority didn't believe that it was only the research. But Caran D'Ache emphasized that the research was for the sake research and motivated by curiousity of the trio, not the willingness to use these techniques in game or share them. The promise was kept and a bit later Caran D'Ache, led by Alex, transformed into development of a new modification which aims at protecting the game from all these cheats. Being empowered by previous experience, the modification became the best in own way. Currently Caran D'Ache is on it's third release and now it also includes many new admin functions and improvements of gameplay in general. You may recognise the servers with the mod installed by a gametype name starting from "CRD".
