Description

This mutator shows up a speech bubble above the heads of any players typing, so people know when they're about to type-kill someone.

MMImTyping110 (11 KB) — the latest version (17.12.2006) or use self-installer (45 KB).

Installation

For additional information please read "readme.txt" in the archive.

  1. Extract all the files from the archive to DeusEx/System or use the installer.
  2. Open your DeusEx.ini from DeusEx/System.
  3. Find the line [DeusEx.DeusExGameEngine], then add the lines somewhere in that block: ServerActors=MMImTyping110.MMIAmTyping
    ServerPackages=MMImTyping110

Updating

from older versions (050/100):

  1. Extract all the files from the archive to DeusEx/System or use the installer.
  2. Open your DeusEx.ini from DeusEx/System.
  3. Find the line [DeusEx.DeusExGameEngine], find ServerActors=MMImTyping.MMIAmTyping
    ServerPackages=MMImTyping
  4. Change these lines to: ServerActors=MMImTyping110.MMIAmTyping
    ServerPackages=MMImTyping110
  5. If you extracted files (instead of using installer), delete MMImTyping.u and MMImTyping.int

Configuring

Learn how to configure the modifications here

bActive — whether or not this mutator is even on. If this isn't on, nothing else matters. Default = True.
bTypersInGod — (not recommended!) makes anyone typing a god. Default = False.
bHideCloakerBubble — makes players using Cloak while typing have invisible typing bubbles. Default = True.
bCloakNoTKPen — makes players that TK someone in cloak not get penalised for that kill. Default = True.
bDisplayLogInfo — toggles log info about warnings/kickings via Type-Killing. Keeping this on is reccomended. Default = True.
BubbleDisplayMode — chooses from basic 2d bubble (Mode_Classic), datalink icon (Mode_Datalink), or 3d bubble to display a player typing (Mode_3D). Default = True.
bPunishTypeKilling — whether to punish players for typekilling or not. Default = True.
WarningsPreKick — if bPunishTypeKilling is on, this is how many warnings a player gets before getting booted for typekilling. Default = 3.
KickMessageColour — what color to display the "X(ID:X) has been kicked for type-killing" message in.
0 — Black, 1 — White, 2 — Red (default), 3 — Green, 4 — Yellow, 5 — Pink, 6 — Blue, 7 — Cyan (Sky Blue)
WarningMessageColour — what color to display the "X(ID:X) has been warned for type-killing" message in.
0 — Black, 1 — White, 2 — Red (default), 3 — Green, 4 — Yellow, 5 — Pink, 6 — Blue, 7 — Cyan (Sky Blue)
SecondsTKStart — the amount of seconds a player must be typing for before they are deemed worthy of penalising their killers if they are typekilled. Default = 4.
SecondsTKEnd — the amount of seconds a player must be typing for after which they are not deemed worthy of penalising their killers if they are type-killed. Default = 105

Known bugs

  1. If, when you are typing, you move away from your spot, the speech bubble stays behind.
  2. When using bTypersInGod, no-one can use the God command without binding it to a key.

Version history

ImTyping (pre-conception mod) — 5th October. No functionality at all. It just spewed speech bubbles everywhere.
ImTyping (partial working order) — 6th October. Speech bubbles error fixed.
MMImTyping (v050) — 9th October. Able to show typing players, and make them god-moded.
MMImTyping (v100) — 15th October. Able to penalise type killing, provided it was within a time bracket pre-determined by the user.
MMImTyping (v110) — 16th October. Initial work on v1.1 begins. Ideas pooled.
Event — 21st October — AOL cuts off our internet.
Event — 4th December — move to new home. Re-start work on this mod. Apply for NTL Broadband.
Event — 11th December — become the 2nd person in the history of NTL to have a modem catch fire with normal use!
MMImTyping (v110) — 16th/17th December — final edits to v1.1 finished. Now able to hide cloakers bubbles, and stop cloaked type Kills from counting in someone's penalties list.
