Am I the only teenager thats happy with a fully functioning family, personal income of £40 a month and a load of mates and a girl that thinks I'm all that?

I've got people who are in a much worse position than me - my gf had her dad die of cancer due to mistreatment at a hospital, her mum goes out on the piss every night, leaving her to babysit 3 kids and giving no time for friends. If I want to tell myself to get over how I'm feeling, I think about her, and what an ignorant bastard I am to think my life is hard and unfair... you don't see her cutting herself :?

Jeez, no wonder people are turning emo

Self-harm is a serious issue, however the whole emo thing associated with it is that emos are seen as to make up problems to find an excuse to hurt themselves in order to 'fit in'.

Most people that self-harm are rather secretive about it, because its their personal way of dealing with things, whereas the emo people generally cut themselves and talk about it as though its something to be expected to do. Almost as though its seen to be cool. :?

Thats why I hate emos. They take serious issues and try and force them upon themselves for pity and attention, both of which they don't deserve.

I once new a guy whose motto was "To self harm is to live, you need pain to be alive".

So apparently, none of us are alive until we have cuts on our wrists. I better get the knife..

BOOM

A part off the proces to deal with the problem is to see that it is a problem , not to deny it , and to talk about it.
But basically what you just said is that everyone that talks about it is an emo/attention whore and does it to be cool.So if people would bottle it up everything would be perfectly normal and they will not have a problem :S
That sounds very logic

No, thats not what I meant at all.

The whole aspect of emo and cutting themselves is that they create problems to find excuses to cut themselves to get attention within their social circle. I never said keeping it secret is the right way to go at all.

What needs to be understood is that people with self-harm issues don't normally do it to show to other people, its a very personal way of dealing with things. (Thats not saying that all people with self-harm are secretive, but its a trait that follows) I never said it was the right or wrong way, I never said that you have to keep feelings bottled up, all I said was that the emo stereotype of self-harm is completely different to that of genuine self-harm.

I never said that anyone who talks about it is an emo/attention whore whatsoever. I quote myself:

Most people that self-harm are rather secretive about it, because its their personal way of dealing with things, whereas the emo people generally cut themselves and talk about it as though its something to be expected to do.

The whole emo "cutting yourself" thing makes light of the real issues of self-harm.
