I have actually recently bought a nvidia graphics card its "8600 GT 256mb DDR3" with a core clock of 540mhz for about £53.50 on amazon(I have been waiting for about 1.5 weeks now ) which I think is decent

It's better than a 8600, overclocked it's a 8800GTS 640.
For raw power on a budget, a HD3870X2 is currently the king I believe. Much cheaper than a 8800Ultra, but packs alot more punch than a 8800GTX.
ATI from what I see are trying to create a market between what Nvidia is doing, which I like. I didn't want to have to choose from a 8600 or an 8800. I wanted middle ground, and that's what I've gotten.
