I think the victim here is "love", and its overuse and thus degradation in your eyes.

It seems that the term "love" is used to describe so much more then it initally was meant for, that every love sick puppy decalres their intentions as loving that person. However, "love" is just a word, and it can not be held responcible for every person that does not use it for it's original meaning.

At the heart of the word "love" is the collection of feelings one has for another, feelings that accumilate to a point where "affection" simply does not do it justice, where saying "I care for you" is simply not enough.

Maternal love, like hormonal feelings that a Mum gets when she sees her newborn for the first time
and
Love for your pets, as in the moment you see the puppy/kitten/whatever you realise you wanna keep 'em
