Music Industries views on Piracy

Music industries are really weird. Their views are anyway. Found this on another forum I'm in...

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20 ... aling.html

Gabriel asked if it was wrong for consumers to make copies of music which they have purchased, even just one copy. Pariser replied, "When an individual makes a copy of a song for himself, I suppose we can say he stole a song." Making "a copy" of a purchased song is just "a nice way of saying 'steals just one copy'," she said.

My opinion is that piracy will never stop, and IMO, this is so bloody stupid. Copying your OWN music that you PAID FOR and using it for INDIVIDUAL USE and NOT giving it away is NOT stealing, IMO anyway...

If however, you make copies and give 'em away or sell them, then it IS piracy.

My mate also said this - "Wouldn't the music industry be pirating their own music since their making million of copies?

Yeah Sony/Columbia are fucking arseholes with their music.
The band I'm obsessed with, one time I got contacted on another forum by their legal team to C&D (owned by Sony obviously). I asked the frontman on AIM awhile back and he said he doesn't have a problem at all with old material being leaked.

My argument would be that they should release licenses with their music, so people can copy their music as much as they like as long as they aren't pirating them or uploading for other uses.

Radiohead put up their new album for download, telling the RIAA to go fuck themselves, lol.

Lol, well if the band put the album up themselves then really, the RIAA can't do anything because it isn't piracy.

Didn't someone get fined for downloading Steal This Album from a other site other than SOAD's?

I also hate Microsoft for using Windows Media Protection crap. It stops you converting the song into the right format you need..

Trent Reznor hated his former label so much over the pricing of his new album in Australia, he told his fans to actually go out and steal it.

He fulfilled his contractual rights with the label and is, from now on, going to produce independently.

If they didn't make CD's £10 when you only wanna listen to two songs for example, they wouldn't be having this problem

If they want to stop piracy so damn much, why don't they simply get their own ship, cannons, etc.. and have a fight with the pirates.... Let's not forget to make them a nerdy skull and crossbones flag.

Thanks, really. I'm serious.

This thread was getting too serious. Even though I haven't read a single post of it, except the last 2.

Rofl.

Tis a big issue, though, piracy.

BUT... My view:

If ya like an artist enough, you will most likely buy it.
E.g, I (was) a huge Metallica fan, and so I bought every single album/single and EP (only UK versions tho im not that rich) they ever released.

If ya DON'T totally LOVE and artist, why would ya care enough to pay for their work??

Meh. Thinking about it, I don't actually care that much.

Download away :-)
