I'm a nerd

Funny to hear this from a 14 year old Finnish boy who thinks that he's "street smart" after meeting older American friends by (!) the internet in the game.

But aside from that. It's not a secret I spend most of my free time at the computer and in the internet, even in university I can be online from my handheld PC or a smartphone. When I do my homework, I do it in Excel and I prepare to exams at the computer as well. I'm admin on two forums, I own 2 game servers and I've been keeping a personal blog for 3 years now.

I'm more interested in internet startups than driving a car, and I never go out other than to the university. I live with parents, I don't have real life friends (only some random acquaintances from the university). All my best friends are from the internet.

I drink alcohol only on holidays (only wine), I don't smoke, let alone weed and other similar shit.

Besides computer stuff, I'm interested in politics and sociology. I read a financial newspaper and every day I visit news sites to know whats happening in the world.

What I tend to say... I am happy. I'm very happy about my life. It allows me to develop in the way I want. It allows me to see my potential and multiply it.

And I'm fine that by someone's opinion I'm a nerd. But I'm not some chav whose notion of life consists in a few things such as smoking weed, getting laid and hanging out. And unlike you, the likes of you, I wouldn't impose anyone my way of life. But I'm sure I'm right and I'm sure I will climb up the ladder by upholding my views and the ways, unlike you.

I balance the computer, Xbox 360 and social life. I have a lot of friends online and off, but I have more friends offline (because online people dont like me becuz of "flaming" and debating and other crap.)

So I would say it's okay to be labeled as a "nerd" or whatever, if it means doing what you love instead of conforming to what other people want.

Lol, personally Cataclyzm, I think the flaming and debating crap makes you you. You'd be fucking boring without it, that's all I'm saying.

I too could be considered a nerd. I have but one offline friend in which I board with (things were too stressful at home, so I moved out). I don't go to school, instead I do homeschooling and plan to go to polytechnic next year.

I'm sorta happy. I appreciate my skills I have and they all require a computer to use. But I would not call myself completely happy. I actually want a social life, I never had one in school because of my last name, as some of your may or may not know. I got abused and I had a bad temperament, so I used the internet and my laptop in general as my safe haven.

I also quit school to do home-schooling via correspondence (http://www.correspondence.school.nz/) and although it's fucked my social life up completely, I'm getting a "better" education for it (bullshit really as I don't wanna learn shit in school, what I wanna do you don't get taught in a NZ school).

I wanna make up for lost social life when I go to get tertiary education. Hopefully it'll work, it may not. But i'm being positive here (and I wouldn't be 2 years ago, trust me).

To me, if you're living your dream and you're happy with your life, why change? Just because somebody else doesn't like your lifestyle doesn't mean you don't have to either.

You know what i find funny, when little kids think that saying things like smoking weed is cool or makes them look cool. I mean what the hell is so bloody cool about smoking something that will most likely end up killing you eventually.

What he said, except erase Xbox 360.

Also Dae, I'm happy for you.

Are you sure you want to live your whole life just like that Dae? When you are old I hope you don't regret everything that you didn't do. Atleast I won't because when I'm old I can proudly say to myself "Atleast I had fun!" 8)

Hockey dominates proceedings in my life, that and school, girlfriend and XBAWKS.

I will meet Eugene one day, and we shall smoke pipes and be jovial.

College, RL friends, Work, 360, Interbutts.

In that other.

Wait.

James, College, RL friends, Work, 360, Interbutts.

Sorry.

But I understand what Dae's saying, as long as he's tested the water I mean, if he has never tried the other parts of life then you really should give a shot.

~[ß]Síke~ - I find it funny that you "DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE BANNED FROM HERE IT'S FULL OF CRY BABY LAMES" When you A) Post when you can (After warnings expire) and B) Make another account to post.

Heh very good post btw - I attend college most days, which I started last year, and made quite a few friends there. I'm not great at the "Having millions of friends and having to decide which house to go to each week" - I have a close circle of friends which I'm happy with. Most people my age seem to just enjoy being immature and getting drunk every night - which isn't the best experience ever (Being sick + ruining year long friendships over the course of a night is good how?) So ye, the friends I have I'm happy with heh.

Sike for your sake I hope _you_ don't regret something that you did.

While Dae may be in his old ages looking back on the internet and all the friends he had on there, you might be in a hospital due to lung cancer, STDs or other things that may look like fun but really, are not.

The definition of a social life is up to you to carve into your life, not someone else.

Okay. :D

...damn, I can't. Mostly because I agree with you entirely. xD

It's almost exactly the same for me, apart from that I have about 4, mabye 5 offline friends. One of which ignores me most of the time, probably because in her mind, i'm trying to get into her pants 24/7, and the others I just crash at the houses of at random to fill up time on the weekends, and lose miserably at wrestling games at. :P

See these words? IN YOUR OPINION. That doesn't mean Dae has to agree with you, does it? His ideas of fun are far different from yours, just like mine are and just like yours are from mine.

If you can't respect people for that then fuck you. We all have fun in our own way, you like real life, I like computers. So fucking what?

Don't take what that guy said to heart. I know plenty of people who are just like you actually. If this is the life you prefer then so be it. This is 0bv something you enjoy so don't let anyone els change that. Me personally I wouldn't label you as a "nerd" just because you're on the computer alot. I also found that funny coming from a 14 year old. I wouldn't classify "smoking weed" or "getting laid" as having fun.... :?

I, too, would much rather a day in front of a computer screen rather than a day socialising.

The "outsiders" just don't seem to understand us, lol. They think it empty and unfulfilling, we think it fuckin' awesome.

Good post.

At least we, the "nerds" can end up doing some constructive with out lives. Instead of becoming fucking sex addicts and pot users.

And how is it constructive? Easy. Look at Bill Gates, look at all the game developers out there. I don't see them as being "poor," do you?

lol. On my second reading of this thread I actually read every post, and one thing which did ring true is Aquashock's point - seriously - EXCERCISE.

I have spent approximately 12-16 hours a day sitting at my computer, I take breaks every hour or so, just to get a glass of water or something, but other than that, I don't move a great deal. I'm a relatively healthy guy aside from the computer thing. Three balanced, healthy meals a day, plenty of water, vitamins etc. Don't drink/smoke pot, and I've been off cigarettes for about a month now.

So basically the computer caused my problems. Here are some LURRRVELY symptoms of not-getting-off-your-ass-enough:

1. Curvature of the spine. Yep - I'm prolly gonna be a hunchback by the time I'm 40 (I'm 20 now, and yeah - I plucked the figure from the sky). It's caused by 'couldn't find enough yellow pages to make monitor higher and chair wont go any lower' syndrome.

2. Muscle wasting. This ain't the hereditary type - my muscles have just wasted away to fuck all. Having problems getting comfortable in any position, due to lower ribs digging into kidney area!! No muscle to give my body any rigidity.

3. The usual: headaches, eye strain (I have 20/20 vision thank goodness!), "oww my wrist REALLY hurts" (from the sniping, of course)

4. Other stuff I forgot.
If anyone plans on spending extended periods of time sitting at their computer, be prepared for health problems!!

PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 08 3:09 am
by Mr. Tastix
I'll probably be a hunchback soon myself, but I want a real social life anyways which means NOT being on the computer for 12-20 hours for me (yes, I sometimes only sleep 4 hours and then go straight back on my laptop).

I'm actually underweight for my height. I am 16 years old, am about 5" 4' tall and weigh NEARLY 50kg. It's kinda pathetic. I used to be fit, but no longer am, I'm healthy to an extent (I eat like 2/3 meals a day and they're generally healthy) but I do consume ALOT of sugar.

I don't get saw wrists as much, I did but not so much when using my laptop (mainly just desktops for some reason). I also get a bit of eyestrain but I wear glasses, so my eyes are already fucked as it is.
