How ATI has alienated me..

Okay, after buying *the now defective* Dell XPS 410, I only had one choice of GPU: an ATI X1300 Pro. Now, I know that the card is crappy (it can't handle SimCity Societies (which sucks anyway (just a forewarning))). That's not the reason why I hate ATI. The main reason why is the drivers are the most unstable and dysfunctional I have ever come across. This isn't one separate eventuality, my previous Radeon 9200 sucked just as hard and was unstable six ways from Nevada.

Because of the crappy service ATI has offered; and the fact that I have a 30% of the Vista logo NOT displaying on the monitor (and three BSOD's caused by it already). Now I am swayed by NVIDIA and their 9600 GT.

Just posted to get it out of my system (literally) and if anyone feels offended by this post please persuade why I shouldn't move camps.

After the bad experience I had with the, get this, unannounced driver update by Windows for ATI cards (which a lot of other people had problems with), I won't be buying an ATI any time soon. Stick with my NVIDIA for now.

In every benchmark I have seen, the high spec ATI card is usually in the lower segment; regardless of GDDR4 RAM and DirectX10.1.

Nvidia is the best.

Come on, isn't there any rebuttal?

Yes, I'm sure there is.

At a point, like 2 years ago ATI was certain to be better. But Nvidia are better now yes.

Still running an X800, although I have yet to get new drivers since my reformat since I know the newer dricers are adding new overhead to my CPU which is just as old.

The current CFX with the 3870X2 seems to be showing the potential of the ATI brand in terms of power vs the new NV 9800GX2 solution. Plus it is cheaper.

But it's true that the current leader is NV with their 8800 GT which is a pretty good deal for $189 CDN.

The new 9800 GX2 is 20% faster than the 8800 Ultra and can handle a TeraFLOP. Now tell me that that isn't immense (in a Jay-style way).

Hell, even the 9600 is 90% faster than its 8 series counterpart.

To put it metaphorically: ATI sprint up the progression ladder of technology, skipping steps and having various miss-fires. Whereas NVIDIA is a snail and takes it time, juicing old tech before jumping to say DirectX10.1 or GDDR5.

I agree with that!

I have actually recently bought a nvidia graphics card its "8600 GT 256mb DDR3" with a core clock of 540mhz for about £53.50 on amazon(I have been waiting for about 1.5 weeks now :( ) which I think is decent :D

I have a similar card, 8600GT 512MB DDR3, runs Crysis just fine.

It's funny how thats all anyone has to say to determine how good their computer is.

It's all about performance right? If it can run things just fine, then it must have good performance :)

I like my ATI 3850.
It's better than a 8600, overclocked it's a 8800GTS 640.

For raw power on a budget, a HD3870X2 is currently the king I believe. Much cheaper than a 8800Ultra, but packs alot more punch than a 8800GTX.

ATI from what I see are trying to create a market between what Nvidia is doing, which I like. I didn't want to have to choose from a 8600 or an 8800. I wanted middle ground, and that's what I've gotten.

ATI needs to get their arses in gear and perfect their buggy drivers.

I got ATI 9600Pro but I don't like it since it doesn't support DirectX9.C :x

Just updated video drivers. It does run smoother but HL2 is being a little bitch. Furthermore my allies kept killing stalkers so the game was continuously crashing and going into a 480 resolution.

Force it through the INI or make a command line in a shortcut

Nah, it's behaving itself but perhaps Catalyst needs to be updated.

There's usually a tick box saying "Express Delivery", have you tried that?
