Most people can't afford to just "go and get better equipment".

He probably does this for a hobby, but this hobby is quite costly, and therefore he can not just "get better equipment".. It'll take time.

This forum is plagued by some serious trolls, thats one part of the story. On the other hand both Daedalus and MrBlack/James/others are partly right.

While it may be extremely annoying to some hardware geeks to see a beginner claim that he can host just about the whole wide web from his home pc, they have not been all constructive and a little too far into criticism, going with the flow and emotions.

Correct way would've been a simple dry answer: sir, you can host couple small websites from it and even then it wouldnt be very pretty, or what not. Use your expertise in the right way. Everybody are able to host if they put some effort into it even if maybe not too much money. If the guy can't realize that his service will not be sufficient for any larger hosting plans after some productive replies, then it would be his problem and you should disregard him as a clueless fool without pressing the fool into buying mad expensive crap as if it was the only solution to host anything from your dedi pc.

Why? Far less fun that way.

- The guys equipment fails.
- He didn't say he was using it for personal use or for learning purposes, he said he wanted it for a "legit business".
- He was told he would need to upgrade. It's not hard to find "proper" websites for what upgrades he might consider looking into.
- We know MrBlack was right, or at least I do. Because he usually is. I know of the facts, I just choose to ignore them.
