Soccer, 3 easy steps to recovery.

Step 1) Get the fsck up, it's only a scratch.

Step 2) Add a shot clock. 5 minutes of passing near the goalie is not fun...

Step 3) For gods sake, come into the new age - install a fscking video ref!

There's only one problem.

Football.

Not Soccer.

*cough*

It is narrow minded to call a single game where foot touches ball as 'the football', because it is wrong.

I am from Australia, thus I have diplomatic immunity.

So hush.

Football here is an entirely different sport.

Go bears!

I always found that the countries who know nothing about the game call it soccer.

Countries that show no interest in it.

Its just the aussies and american I think, although your theory is probably true nonetheless.

PostPosted: Mon Jun 19, 06 7:06 pm
by Lazer
I agree with that theory ^^ too.

1) Agreed.

2) wtf is a shot clock? even though i dont know what 1 is i dont want 1 adding. its the greatest sport in the world, why change it?

3) a video ref will only slow down the fast, fluent pace the game is played at (unless ur in Italy). plus, it adds to the drama, the debate and the excitement of football. a video ref would take the drama and talking points out of the game.

They got sports in Australia now?

The thing with football is (Well the world cup). Everyone seems to say how shit we are, until we start winning and then theyre like, oh yeah I never doubted them I knew we'd win! >_>

Nah, we like soccer, and we don't call it soccer because of that, we don't want it to get confused with the American football. Besides, I watch Soccer every now and then!

You are talking to a guy that was an avid soccer player as a kid. So no, theory is not correct.
(Mind you, we were tough, we played on limestone, not sissy grass.)

2) wtf is a shot clock? even though i dont know what 1 is i dont want 1 adding. its the greatest sport in the world, why change it?

If by "greatest" you mean sluggish, boring, un-eventful, and generally a waste of 90 minutes, then yeah, why change it...

3) a video ref will only slow down the fast, fluent pace the game is played at (unless ur in Italy). plus, it adds to the drama, the debate and the excitement of football. a video ref would take the drama and talking points out of the game.

Watch Rugby, phool. The Video ref is there for iffy calls, when a ref is not 100% sure, he goes to the video ref. Personally, I find lilly livered fairies rolling around on the ground crying for a free kick or foul to hamper the game more then a video ref ever could. And if the video ref isn't going to be, make sure all ref's are trained well.

Although seriously, you must agree that the world cup is the pincle of Soccer... yet why is it so fscking boring? ><

I stayed up till 3am to watch Australia get beaten by Brazil, I found my self flicking from channel to channel just trying to liven things up... I mean, 2 goals in 90 minutes? Please... that's not fast, thats slow as all hell. 167points in 80 minutes, now THAT is fast and frantic.

Personally, I think basketball is the greatest sport in the world. Also it's a universally played sport, so that's a plus :)

Ok, im over my shock now. Avid soccer player as a kid means nothing, it doesnt mean you understand the game. Your post makes me think you dont!

sluggish, boring, un-eventful, and generally a waste of 90 minutes

in your opinion, and quite frankly, your opinion sucks! i'll side with the majority all over the world who agree its the greatest sport in the world i think ;)

whats your favourite sports?

i do watch rugby. the video ref is needed due to the ambiguous nature of ALOT of tries. in football however, theres no need. the controversies involved (over diving, was it wasnt it a penalty etc adds to the magic of the game).

Although seriously, you must agree that the world cup is the pincle of Soccer... yet why is it so fscking boring? ><

its not tho is it :) and to think your countries game against brazil was boring says it all, u have no affection for football so thats why you're so negative about it! i thought the aussies were a patriotic bunch?

Quite the stereotype.

Let's see here .... I don't think the rest of world includes Asia, US, Australia, and all the other countries.

Just because the country you live in loves football doesn't mean the rest of the world does or has to, either.

American football for me.

Asia loves football more than anything else, i'd put my house on it. its just north america and australasia that have bigger sports.

Actually, Europe loves Soccer more than Asia.

If your theory was correct, I didn't know Kazahkstan likes soccer more than Italy, and China more than the UK.

I never said asia likes football more than europe. i said asia likes football more than ANYTHING else, as in any other sport!

But that is an opinion, without any factual basis. ;)

I will always maintain, Soccer is a great game to play, but shit boring to watch.

Polls and statistics, please. There are about 50 thousand soccer fans going made in the streets of Australia, maybe the same over in Germany. Australia has 20 million people. I don't like those odds.

And using Japan as an example, they are madly into Soccer, Baseball and golf. Soccer is a single sport they love.

whats your favourite sports?

Racing. V8 super cars, to be exact. But you propbly wouldn't know anything about that.

Right... so bullshit calls aren't bad, they make the sport better!

If you want drama, watch Dr.Phil, I watch sport to see the best of the best.

I have no affection for football because it is boring. The game it's self doesn't even come near the top 10 or even top 20 of 'worlds greatest sports' imo.

I am very patriotic, however me being proud of my country does not change the fact Soccer can put an insomniac to sleep.

I wub you Dez.

i cant be arsed to argue. responding to long posts annoy me! so we'll agree to disagree.

i think football is the best sport in the world, i believe it is the most popular sport in the world, it is exciting blah blah blah and i dont want a video ref in the sport i love the most. i value my opinion on that particular matter more highly than yours (just the same as i'd value your opinion on the rules of V8 super cars over mine) because i love the game and wouldnt have it any other way. you think football is boring, so would try and change it.

I'd agree to disagree, however I'd prefer to think that if you watched V8 super cars, you'd make your own mind up about the rules. :)
(But if you support Ford, I'll track you down and eat all your cookies.)

The biggest thing wrong with Soccer, in my eyes, is the inflexability you show, and it's the same thing others show. Other sports around the world have given ground on some issues to please the majority of fans, not just the blindly hard-core. Soccer is ruled by the die-hards, and thats sad, because most of them are pricks.
(I was goign to make it a 4 step post, but it seemed out of place, step 4 being fine/ban stupid prick soccer fans and then take points from the team, I have proof of this working.)

And as far as "soccer" vs "football", you will find that football is not a game, it is a genre, of which soccer falls in. You are right in the fact soccer is a foot ball game, however many other codes are also in the football genre.
