V-V-V-Vista!

Postby Kaiden » Sun Jun 17, 07 1:30 am

Ok, I just spent the last 2 hours restoring my laptop's hard-drive to a previous time.

I bought the laptop yesterday (as it's 1:25). But I had no troubles with it for a few hours. All of my friends say Window's Vista is crap and I should just use XP, but I like Vista.. or did.

Anyway, I was installing an anti-virus programm, McAffee 2006. After 10 minutes I get the wonderful error;

**********

This Programm Is Not Compatible With Windows Vista.

**********

Woo? Fair enough.. But then!

**********

Error: #55932 Invalid file/missing file.

**********

Hmm.. Ok. Ah, screens died.. right.. "Windows is restarting" eh...ok.

*Restarts*

Screen's still blank after you login..

Then I spent 2 hours trying to restore it, because it wasn't recognizing either of the 2 CD's I had. It did eventually though, hence how I am on my laptop now.

Although there are probably topics like this, has anyone else had problems like this with Vista? Not being able to install basic programms because they are "INCOMPATIBLE" then getting corrupted files?

Discuss pleases!

Agreeded. Basically, its best to wait till the first SP coomes out, or 2nd. Vista is full of bugs, and yes it may look purdy, its a system hog. with a 4.6Ghz computer, running 1GB of memory, the HDD was running and buzzing like crazy trying to make up for the "lack" of ram. And that was running Pure Vista, no other programs, and just like navigating to the Control Panel. Nevermind the stuupid popups you get 5 million times a day when you want to do something. Yes, do a wipe, add XP, then go Vista when its more stable and there are more drivers/compatible software around. its too new, thus not many programs happily support it. On another note, Halo2 Requires Vista :S fscking Microsh*t.

1. AVG/Zone Alarm own all of you.

2. Anyone who uses Norton deserves to have their computer fucked up.

3. Vista sucks grandma balls. I'd rather use fucking XP than Vista. Considering SOME XP software isn't compatible with Vista as you found out.

4. Vista sucks balls. Oh wait, already said that. WELL IT SUCKS BALLS 2X OVER BIATCHES!!!

I agree, AVG and Zone Alarm are pretty cool shareware. However I thought your comment about Norton is abit harsh, its easy to use if you're new to computers and it has saved me a few times... even if it was a bulky program.

Vista is too much for me, XP was just abit over the line but Vista IS miles off the yards... I don't see why they have to add new stuff to their OS and not FIX it from scratch and keep what it needs at MINIMAL size.

Yeah, Norton is still used hugely by basic computer users, as it often comes with the computer pre-installed. My one tried to me clever and stopped me trying to un-install it by claiming files were missing lol. I just downloaded their removal tool though.

AVG- Had it for a while, but the trial ran out.

Okay, admittedly Norton is good. It finds 98% of viruses. AVG finds about 90% (that's still fucking excellent, mind you).

However, Norton does everything you don't want a virus to do - slow the fuck out of your computer. And the Norton Firewall/Security Suite blocks pretty much everything (my mate used it and couldn't do jack shit).

I like McAfee personally, out of the ones you gotta pay for. I also think Windows Defender isn't too bad for a Microsoft product and it's free. But IMO, Windows Anti-Spyware was better and considering it's STILL in fucking beta version after how long?

More or less everything; amount of RAM incidentally, GFX card spec, and more surprisingly, the fact that I have dual core >_>

HAHAHA, you bought Vista.
I've had Vista for 3 months now and I've never experienced any problems of any nature. Everything runs smoothly and efficiently. In fact, it's most likely much more secure than XP. the only thing wrong with it: RAM usage, I just feel like it is being used in excess. Right now I have 2 GB RAM running at 667 MHz bus speed and the meter says that, on average, 33% of it is being used in current operations.
A CNN reporter, while interviewing a Marine Sniper, asked. "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist?"
The Marine shrugged and replied, "Recoil."
