Test Zone development thread

Postby Dae » Fri Jan 11, 08 5:32 pm

Updated: 06.02.07.

Bugs:
  1. Scoreboard: players are listed in a random order.
  2. Gametype: the map doesn't restart when the timer reaches 0:00.
  3. Many BSP holes -> solution in "to do 2".
  4. Basketball:
    1. Baskets stop working suddenly -> more information required.
    2. Balls still jump out of the basket.
    3. Sometimes it doesn't score, or it scores after the ball didn't hit the net.
    4. If a ball hits you when you're holding another ball, you can throw it out.
    5. Basketballs don't disappear when thrown out from the court to water.
  5. Tubular bells don't swing.
  6. The incomplete description of the box gun.
  7. Can't make horizontal lines with the box gun.
To do:
  1. Drums.
  2. Replace brush-based nets with models.
  3. Piano needs more notes.
  4. Set bMeshEnviroMap for the metal bar mesh.
  5. Change the skin of BarIron.
  6. Weapon crafting system.
  7. Traditional Desert Eagle, as it is a FunLine map.
Suggestions: (soon to be moved to the "to do" list)
  1. Colored boxes (by Gishank).

Problems:
1) I would have thought the unlimited box size was easily fixable =/
2) You could make a texture/brush that can't have boxes spawned on?
3) A max amount of boxes on the server (1500?) When it reaches this, either the oldest ones get deleted as more are spawned, or you cannot spawn more until you delete some
4) Infinite bio / automaticaly drops player after 10 seconds / ADS item / way of escaping (e.g. tap jump), + rockets that you can hear coming better, and dont home in as well (slower turning)

Also, when you are captured with the hostage gun, you can still use weapons. You could then capture the person who captured you, causing the funny flying bug and killing one or both of you.
AND to stop the speed aug + hostage gun killing, make the gun drop the hostage if it is put away.

Problem:
Sometimes, when making tall stairs or a tower, you fall through any further blocks that you make on the tower, forcing you to stop or start again.

Well, if I could find some piano note noises on the interbutts, I'd have a crack at making the playable piano.

Windows, windows, and more windows again by the looks of it... :P

You could get piano notes from programs like Sibelius?

It's easier for me to get sound samples from the flash games, like these:
http://numbera.com/musictheory/piano.aspx
http://www.apronus.com/music/flashpiano.htm
http://www.guitarweek.com/piano/flash-piano.php

But I don't know which sounds better, and are they any good :)

They are more like electronic piano's than real piano's, to be honest.

Ok, progress on the piano:

I've got some sounds from some Win95 program called 'Sweet Little Piano', so I should be able to fiddle with them for a bit.
Working on butchering something like Keypad to get the buttons into a window. :)

Hey, maybe you could play with your computer keyboard as well as clicking? Maybe the top number row could play notes? =P

Would the sounds still be heard by people around you if it was in a window though?

I could get it to call the PlaySounds through the piano as opposed to the buttons, so mabye. :)

Oh, and there's 12 notes to an octave (A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#), and 10 number keys.

QWERTYUIOP[] could work though.

I was the first to make everyone deaf by playing some hard rock/terror/whatever remix on the bells. Because of me the bells have been adjusted so they are no longer loud.

I win.

A few suggestions:

* Make the Basketball court into 4 zones, 1 is for one point, 2 is for two points, 3 is for 3 points, and 4 is the out of bounds area where if you shoot you cannot get points.

* Add some custom modeled weapons

* Drivable vehicles (like Alex said), possibly helicopter

* The tubular bells are completely black for some reason... :S

* Maybe add 1 more "information" to the bell that describes how to play Jingle Bells.
