Need help with lighting

Postby Spiderbot01 » Sun Jan 08, 06 2:57 pm

I'm making an outdoor assault map for the DXAG, now generally I make my maps night time ones but I thought that wouldn't work, now I'm putting in all the lights around the map but whenever I do it, it looks really crappy and fake. Any tips?

You want to do nightime or daytime?

The main tip - experiment with light properties. Increase radius, brightness, change color and etc. For the effect of nightime you may try to set color to pale blue.

Nah I know how to do nightime, most of my outdoor maps are, i think I've sorted it now though, theres just going to be shadowy areas, I suppose as far as stealth is concerned that's a good thing...

Here's a tip, if you want to do a daytime map, don't use a skybox. Actually make the areas, like so:
Code: Select all

my picture went kinda wrong.

Don't use a skybox because the daytime sky textures are unreallistic, so they need to be further away behind a wall/building to look good. Plus i tend not to use skyboxes to make it more reallistic - you're gonna get some noob thats gonna shoot the sky, and be like "wtf theres a wall th3r"

That's probably the best you'll get from the engine.
