There are Top, Front and Side windows in UnrealEd. Select the brush in one of them, then while holding both left mouse button and ctrl key on the keyboard, move your mouse.

If you want to move your brush up and down in 3D view, move your mouse while holding Ctrl and both left and right mouse buttons. If you hold Ctrl and either left or right mouse buttons, it will move by either X or Y axis.

It's not recommended, though, to use 3D view for precise brush positioning. For example, when you want a cube to lie on the floor, the bottom side of the cube should adjoin the floor surface, instead of colliding it and it's almost impossible to place it so precisely in 3D view.

Yeah, I got into mapping thanks to Tack's website. It seriously has got a lot of mapping tutorials and stuff. It tells you what all the buttons do and stuff etc etc. Just in case if you don't know, you use a program called UnrealED to map. Better to use UnrealED 1 than two :)

A little side note: Tack's tutorials are primarly directed to SP mapping, but you can use a vast majority of it for MP.. You won't be able to do things like convos, Interpolation points, Patrol points, and other things like that... But his tutorials are probably one of the best.. If you want another good site, there's also Universal Constructor.. They cover some of what Tack does, but if i'm not mistaken, they have things that Tack doesn't talk about.. There should be a link on his site. But do yourself a favor..... Avoid Wolf's tutorials.. OMG, they bugged the hell out of me when I was trying to learn.. I spent hours just trying to understand it.. So stick with Tack's or Universal Constructor..

UnrealEd2 is definitely better — it has more features, it's expandable (you can download more brushes from the web, such as rings or a terrain builder) and has a better interface. Moreover with the release of the patch, you can see the models in UnrealEd2 too.

Yeah, it is. But you cant find much tutorials on it, such as tacks and constructor they have tuts on the first one and not second which is bad luck. So i reccommend the first one :D
