Basically Im currently in the middle of doing a map with the surrounding being an inhabited underground 'city' (Obviously it wouldnt be that big)
My main issue is that most earth textures look wank in DX and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how to make the walls, ceiling etc look good. Obviously lighting will come into play, but the floor lofter isn't great for large areas.
Any advice would be gladly welcome.

Use meshes/prefabs from meshes, for broken rocks on the ground/debris.
As for textures, I can link you to some basic C4D earth ones that came with the thing.

how about a few water drops in various places? Add to the realism effect, and some of the concrete walls could have SLIME. i.e Water = concrete after an ammount of time creates some sort of green slimey shit. (just to stop confusion)

Ambient sounds!

When I started using them before, they really did make a difference, like wind noises etc.

Steal new textures from the internet
Detail textures for muck over walls
Nothing should be symmetrical and leaks should be in places with animated falling water textures into collected puddles on the ground
too long; didn't read go visit a cave and come back with fresh knowledge!

Im thinking of doing a city scape, as in border or buildings and using a skybox behind it, opinions?

Add massively high-contrast decals for the rock textures.
