To be honest, if I had time I'd rather spend it on doing some releases.
Oh and people say "teach me mapping" when they're not enough interested in this process

tack was brilliant, but the thing that really helps your mapping is just pissing about on SDK or UnrealEd...making really easy and simple maps...publicly testing them to find out what is wrong, and then trying to better that map with ur next one...

Same as I did, but when you first start mapping you can only really make basic shapes anyway!

Steve Tack is full of win.
If he did a full MP mapping tutorial, I would worship him as God.

Due to the fact that he never got into DXMP, he'd be on a par to us anyway.

I would have just said 'touché' to that, but then it'd have been a one-word post and I would've got another useless warning.

Tack's guide is useful for learning how to make SP and learn the editor too.
Godz NC wrote a beginner's mappers MP checklist which, in conjunction with Tack, is what got me a map that player could join and fight and not laugh too much at it, but even then I did not really learn anything until a lot of maps got hosted and I found out for myself what players want and don't want. What is obvious to you, might be a map secret to someone else. Some DX players seem to be brains=mammal, some bore very easily, the majority of players like small maps, but there is a large minority too of people who enjoy a DX adventure map too. Play the map from every angle and see if you have made sniper/ambush points , given enough time/distance to spwn etc...test the gameplay more than anything before you host... check every tool, door etc.. will it work for 1 v 1 and 10 v 10? etc...
Jon, Chris, Allan, Max, Mainman etc and Magus at dxms.co.uk and also Vodunloas and [A]members seem to be the most knowledgeable and accomplished, with regards to the editor and MP mapping...you couldn't be in better hands... the things improved my mapping was:
being hosted by FGS a lot
being a member of DXMS/ user of the forums
Dedicating myself to improving at mapping - like Dae said...
and listening to the players...

Hmm... I might even check this out myself, lol. Though I myself, work better by fucking around with SDK (or any other sort of toolset kind of program) or working with someone one on one. I don't like reading a bunch of tutorials only having to write notes because I'll forget what the tut said and then once done that forget I wrote the goddamn notes.
The only ONE tutorial I've EVER read (and wrote the whole damn thing on paper, all 20 pages of it lol) was an HTML Tutorial. The only other tuts I read are Photoshop ones as I the difference with them, is that I can attempt them while reading the tut.

Mammals/Humans is curious... cos combat and flee and raise alarm and stuff is sorted elsewhere in properties, so this i would like to know too lol...

It seems to determine behavioural patterns. Like if you hide from an animal, it will clear off, hide from a human, it'll keep looking.
In all honesty, this is something i'll be looking into.

AI in-game; accuracy and attentiveness contribute I think, but I'm no coder.
