A 2 vs. 2 tournament (or 3 v 3)

Postby messiah » Mon Sep 18, 06 7:00 pm

Since there are some players left who still want to play organized games we (tBoT) decided to arrange something else than before. So instead of a basic DXMP Marathon we thought a 2 vs. 2 tournament could be pretty nice. Before I can create a website for this I need to see if there are enough people willing to join it. We need at least 16 players (we already have 10 participants), meaning eight teams, to participate. Otherwise I personally think arranging a tournament is waste of time and lacks excitement.

So, basically this tournament means that you pick a partner who you play with. As this is the first 2 vs. 2 tournament we are arranging it so that you can choose your partner yourself. If this tournament turns out to be a success but is somehow unfair because of the teams we will arrange another tournament that mixes up the players into teams of two. For example if there are six players, me, dbl, monkee, P2TMX, khomeini and daRk willing to play and I personally would want to play with daRk, I might end up playing with Monkee instead (which of course would not be a bad deal either). Now if we would get enough players to arrange a 3 v 3 instead of 2 v 2, then we can mix up the teams right away to make things the most even possible. Anyhows, back to the first tournament.

After we have gotten enough teams (supposedly at least eight, meaning 16 players altogether) we can start arranging matches. In every game your team plays two maps. The team that has better kill / death ratio on average will win and continue its "journey" to tougher matches. This way even players who are known to be less skilled than others can win the match with right tactics. Lenght of one map will be set to be 17-20 minutes and the gametype will be advanced team deathmatch, meaning two augs and 2000 skill points with zero streak (and two augs plus 2000 skill points per every kill, of course). What comes to the server we will most likely use Stes.

Anyhows...you can join the tournament @ http://triad.deusex-online.com/forums/i ... 2255359064 .

Most likely at least the older players here who have been around for longer than just a year or two know that tournaments such as this have been tried to set up before. They have all failed due to the organizer getting fed up with crap or players leaving the teams etc. So please join in ONLY if you know you really want to do the matches...that you will not let your partner down. I personally hate nothing else than to arrive on the server and see only one "enemy" instead of two or three. I can not see any reason why anyone would do this though, fighting official matches has always been the best thing DXMP can provide.

Anyway, I believe most of the players here that are interested in augmented games have registered on our forum too so you can see the updates on the tournament there.

Thank you for your interest and take care,

Dont bother searchin round for a partner...we may just randomly assign teams to avoid big skill imbalances. Just go to the forums and sign up :D

That's a good idea.

I'm not a good augger at all, but I'd participate just to participate :) The only problem is, you used to play Marathons at 24 GMT and this time is not suitable for me.

Seeing as the matches are just 2v2, I'm sure your partner + your opponents could arrange a suitable time ;)

If more americans play besides just Blake and Kale then perhaps I'll think about it.

So I doubt it.
