I heard from Rhino that it was released in '95.

Can't be too sure though, I got mine through SoldOut software

GOTY was released in 2000

so the original was either early 2000, or late 1999

The GOTY edition so as the multiplayer patch were released in the beginning of 2001, i think. At least, i remember that on 5(or 6-th)-th December it has been announced that its gonna be released.
